Thrush? Take loads of pro biotics to counter getting candida

I've been having issues with prostatitis for years now just keeps coming back that's why I've been talking antibiotics

And what kind of pro biotics??

Mikiviki profile image
Mikiviki in reply to citrus87

Pro biotics such as in home made yogurt or any health store will help you supplement daily. I am surprised that doctors only sometimes remember to give probiotics to counter side effects

Ok cause I'm also have some stomach issues when I get off of them...and a little bit of a heart problem

Not sure I am not a doctor. Antibiotics however ( a certain antibiotics) are the cure for stomach ulcers. My husband has had open heart surgery but is allowed antibiotics when necessary. Just counter the effect by regularly taking probiotics

Ok. I was on piles of antibiotics for throat problems. I live in Italy and only recently docs stopped prescribing liberally antibiotics 4 everything. I got thrush twice in my throat and had to take anti fungus medicine. It was awful with the die off of the dead spores. However sometimes antibiotics cant be avoided

Has he /she actually got to the bottom of why these infections keep coming back? Would you consider protate surgery?

Idk if I want surgery it's probably my last resort because surgery is always scary lots of things can go wrong during it

By extension from what we know of cattle rearing, enhanced growth and improved efficiency of conversion of feed into body mass.

not sure if it was connected but i was on low dose of antibiotics for a year (use to get bladder infections,) and ended up with breast cancer at the age of 28, be vary wary.

citrus87 profile image
citrus87 in reply to weg1

Was that because of the antibiotics you were taking??

really don't know just happened to meet someone else at the time who swears blind he lost his wife due to cancer and she had been on long term antibiotics and that was the cause, I can understand where he was coming from as they don't just fight infection but lower your whole immune system, 28 was very young and we don't have family history of it. just a thought. it seems doctors will prescribe anything to treat the symptoms but whose looking for the cause x

Citrus, has you doctor discussed with you the possibility that only 'cold steel and sunshine' fixes this? It's a very unfortunate situation but once chronically infected, prostates are notoriously impossible to 'cure'. Same goes for testicles. Bacteria just set up housekeeping and for some reason antibiotics may only keep things under control but not eliminate them. Meantime the rest of the gut gets ruined by the antibiotic.

I don't know how old you are, but I have a friend in his early 60s who has other health issues, like longterm undiagnosed celiac resulting in neurological issues due to B12 deficiency. He's had the prostate thing for many, many years, been on many antibiotics. Even tried some weird 'alternative medicine' thing with external prostate massage (painful and ineffective). His doctor is now trying Flomax just to help with bladder emptying because he has to wake up numerous times during the night so not sleeping well either. I don't know how that's going yet. Initially he was not impressed with the medication. I keep telling him to get it removed and he keeps telling me he won't. He's very stubborn.

I'm a 26 year old got the infection like 3 years ago..I don't think the antibiotics actually work for it, I mean it makes the problem a little better but doesn't make it go away...I have had like 2 intestinal infection since than so it's just weakening my stomach

Unfortunately, you may need to find a good surgeon. Although, yes, there can be adverse results from the surgery like nerve damage and erectile dysfunction, you really need to think about the long term consequences of having this very unfortunate situation. I don't know what the stats are on this. Anyway, the majority of men getting prostate surgery are older and most of them were probably not getting, you know, enthusiastic responses from their body part any longer to begin with. So statistics would be skewed anyway. You need to find out what happens when younger men go through this procedure.

Do your research.

I also have been taking antibiotics for a few years now. I take Azithromycin 250mg capsules per day but, after discussion with Specialist before being discharged, he agreed I could stop taking them during June, July and August as I was concerned about the adverse effects they can cause. I have that many ailments so I'm not sure if they are doing me any harm. I have had thrush a couple of times but my Seretide 500 can cause that. The good thing is I haven't had asthma and bronchitis since taking the antibiotics along with my inhalers and tablets. Best wishes.

Taking lose dose antibiotics must affect your immune system because it destroys the bacteria in your small intestine. Take loads of probiotics and try vitamin B12. Certainly ask to be tested for a B12 deficiency. The small intestine plays a huge part in the immune system.

My GP requested B12 to be tested along with other blood tests but when I range for the results, the Lab hadn't sent certain results, including B12. I will enquire again when I see GP next week.

Remember that we are made up of mostly bacteria and water - more bacteria than cells. So by taking anti-biotics you are killing part of yourself (very rarely are they targeted at a specific bacterium). Just sayin'. I know sometimes it can't be avoided.

I wish I could avoid taking antibiotics. I think I've done well getting a 3 month break from them without getting any infections (touch wood). Maybe I can take an extra month off them as I expect any time without them is a help. Unfortunately antibiotics are the lesser of the evils.

I would have thought that the longer you take them the less effective they will be, the more different kinds you will have had to take - and the doses must get higher to produce the same effect (which I gather from the rest of this thread is not particularly good). This is how MRSA gets a hold: when bacteria become immune to almost all antibiotics. It will also encourage candida/thrush. Which can be as hard to get rid of as the bacterial infection the antibiotics were fighting in the first place.

Sympathies - you're a bit between a rock and a hard place.
