Questions to ask my Endo surgeon?

I’m due to go see my Endo surgeon next week. She performed my thyroidectomy last summer. Our last appointment I was told they would lowered my thyroxin dose to 100mg per day from 125mg. I was quite depressed as I had put on loads of wight. I stupidly thought I could carry on with my healthy diet, it was not working and I was exercising more. Anyway you all know the drill. Anyway I think when I see her next week she will discharge me back to my GP. My question is can my GP change my dose and can they introduce T3? I would like to try the T3 to see if I I can stop taking all the supplements.

Any advise, should I be making my endo listen to me before discharge or what? I know my GP would listen to me, but I’m not sure how this works, the chain of command so to speak???

Hope you can help

Nicky, try and persuade your endo to prescribe some T3 as GPs are often prevented by their CCGs unless an endo has recommended T3. Thyroidless patients don't always do well on T4 only as some T3 is converted in the thyroid, up to 20% I've read, although I can't link to that. This study discusses T4 monotherapy and T4+T3 combination therapy. eje-online.org/content/161/...

GPs don't usually alter dose when you are under the care of an endo but they can and certainly can when you have been discharged. T3 isn't an alternative to supplements btw. If you are deficient or low in vits/mins you will need to supplement to enable optimal absorption of thyroid meds.

if you are unable to persuade your endo or GP to prescribe T3 I would recommend self medicating.
