Hi, I have been on Thyroxine for 24 years and someone mentioned to me that they also take Cytomel and since combining the two they felt better immediately. Does anyone else do this and if so can you get it on NHS prescription or do you have to order it privately from internet.
THYROXINE and CYTOMEL: Hi, I have been on... - Thyroid UK
THYROXINE and CYTOMEL
You can ask your GP to add 10mcg of T3 to a reduced T4 (levothyroxine). Some are reluctant (it's expensive) but some are willing.
Dr Toft has a booklet which most chemists may have or your can order from Amazon. I haven't read it but it does comment about T3.
If you have had an up-to-date blood test for your thyroid gland, post the results with the ranges (these are important for comments). If you haven't had one for a while request a Full Thyroid Function Test (tell your GP you need an MOT as you have been on meds for a long time) i.e. TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3. At the same time request Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, iron, ferritin and folate as we are usually deficient.
If your GP doesn't do all the thyroid tests you can have them done privately and we have the name of labs which will do so. At least then you will have a bigger picture.
WHAT IS IT?
