Sarah do you have recent thyroid gland blood test results? If not ask your GP for a full thyroid function test, plus B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate before you make a decision.

Hi is there a link between thyroid and frozen shoulder my gp has said not!

What would an osteopath do for treatment?

Specialist said it can run in the family and linked to diabetics and people with Hashimoto thyroid problems! I've not got any of that

Hi I had frozen shoulder and managed to cure it through exercise it does return if I don't exercise for a month or so but just 5 minutes with weights twice a week is all it takes to keep it at bay.

I've had weird shoulder pain recently, I wondered if it was connected with my Dupytren's or the fact I feel like I feel as if I am going from my per to hypo but I'm not sure.

Anyway I found this guy Neil Asher and his exercises, you can put your post code in somewhere on here and find physios and chiropractors who use his technique, you can also just do his exercises by yourself and find someone at home to do the massage bit. I've been doing his phase 1 exercises since I discovered them - they are quite simple - and they have made quite a difference for me so it might be worth taking a look

I've got a frozen shoulder - the pain originally was indescribable. I have had a total of 4 injections (first two achieved nothing but not done by someone competent), I had needling to remove calcium deposits, and have had physiotherapy. The problem now is much better than it was, but has been causing me a problem more recently but not as painful as before. I've had several x-rays and scans over the last couple of years, my consultant has said that surgery could be an option if it gets very bad again - I trust his judgement totally, but it isn't something I would have yet as I can cope with the pain. If it got anywhere as bad as it did, I would be first on the waiting list.

Thank you all for your replies. I have seen an orthopedic specialist in June who said I needed an op and it would probably be October!! Well it's not it's been penciled in for 30 July!!! The pain is no where near what it was however movement is no better!! Unfortunately I can't afford to pay for osteopath treatment!! I've had it since feb and no improvement in movement!!

Hi, I was lucky, I had cortisone injections, a few times, no offer of physio, by my GP! But the injections did the trick for me, I had two episodes, two injections, sympathise with you, pain is unbearable! Hope you get a resolution on this problem.

My frozen shoulder started 2 send a half years ago. The first 6 months were the most painful. Then it went through a period where I couldn't move it but the pain was reduced. I was offered physio, did it once but too painful so stopped. For the last few months I have been getting my movement back and it's wonderful to be able to use 2 arms again. I am diabetic so it has taken longer for it to improve. I think the first stage of 'freezing' is the most painful bit so if you can get through that then over time it should improve. Having operation might be a speedier route to improvement though.

Some years ago, before being diagnosed with Hashimoto's I suffered terribly from a frozen shoulder and neck pain so sought help from a chiropractor; although quite expensive, it was worth every penny as within a few weeks I felt better than I had in years. Funnily enough, since being diagnosed with Hashimoto's I haven't had a relapse, yet prior to this I had many bouts of this debilitating condition - so whether this is because of the chiropractor's skill or the levothyroxine.....I'm not certain, but I urge you to seek a chiropractor's opinion before you undergo surgery.

A Frozen Shoulder was one of my complaints before I was diagnosed with Under-active Thyroid. I spent 18 months trying to find out what the problem was. No Massage, Chiropractor, Physio or Acupuncture treatment was helping not even the GP. A change of Chiropractor suggested my Thyroid may be the problem within one visit, I was also complaining at the time of burning muscle pain. An under-active Thyroid was confirmed by a trip for the second time to Rheumatoid Arthritis Consultant, I was now showing abnormal T4 and TSH levels. Having taken D3, B12 and the levothyroxin for 2 years the shoulder is less painful, the niggle does still sit there in the background. It flared up again recently when my D3 levels had dropped.

I have had a frozen shoulder for nearly a year now. I stretched through to back seat of car for lunch bag and strained it and that was the start of a long painful journey. Injection did no good, having another in a month. I've been to gym and stretched it twice a week so it never became imobile. The research says it goes in a 3 stage cycle. I wouldn't have surgery unless last resort. My thyroxine levels are good now so will be patient. Good luck.

here's a search of frozen shoulder - it could be co-incidence I suppose?
