T 3 is active hormon, and t4 is prohormon, that is 300% less potent , has longer half life, like a week, while t3 only 1_2 days......T3, free one circulating in your body is dictating the metabolismmof your body, if its low you will get fat belly, feel abit like bloated, and r T3 is the one that has no activity but to fill up space in cell receptors that should be filled by active T3 one, rT3 gets produced from t4 when you suddenly go on a diet .....this is antimetabolism hormon, he is like a cork on a bottle stops energy from leaking....makes you store fat
Ft3 is the most important hormon then can measure and rt3....you wont feel good without it beeing in upper end of the range...this is my experience!
Thank you I am female and prob perimenopausal heavy unending periods , my ferrtin is low at 7 , vitamin d too on tabs for both all else appears fine except that I feel terrible . Thank you for your help
You feel terrible becasue of low ferritin, you must be on 100_200 mg elemental iron.....and ask for progesteron levels....some additional therapy of it may very well help, try takingn psylium, fresh carrots, and more fibers to reduce estrogen dominance......you need balanced female horomns too.....and supplementing and you will feel better
Why not write down your history for the Endo. List and explain the difficulties you're having, a personal history of your treatment and response to it etc. it takes the pressure off you in the appointment.
Brilliant idea to at least note some bullet points to make sure you at least mention everything you should! Nervousness tends to make everything fly out of the window!
Sorry, forgot to say there is a really good thread on boards.ie just type in Thyroid Misery loads of people with helpful stuff about having thyroid problems and living in Ireland
