I was experiencing fatigue and not feeling great at all. So in February I change from 100mcg of T4 to 75mcg of T4 and 10mcg of T3 (5mcg before breakfast and 5mcg at bedtime). After 8 weeks on the combination my bloods were:-
TSH 0.68 (0.3 - 5)
T4 12.7 (10 - 18.7)
These are the only things that were tested.
I'm slightly better with this combination but still not well. My vitamins and minerals tests are ok and I'm supplementing the important ones. I'm seeing the doctor this thursday with a view to adjusting the combination. What are my options? could the T3 need reducing or increasing? and the T4? Bearing in mind my TSH and T4 levels, more T3 will suppress them out of range won't it? and if it did is that safe and if so, how would i explain that to my doctor? Thanks.

It is difficult to know without a T3 result, because the important factor is not your TSH, which will always be low when on T3, or the T4, which will also be lower on the combo but your T3. Why did the lab not test it? So frustrating. My feeling is you need more T3, say 20 mcg a day, split as you are doing and see if that helps your symptoms which in the end, is all that matters. The thing to avoid is a very over range T3 but on 10 mcg, I doubt if that is happening. Make sure you do not take medication on the day of the next blood test and have it as early as possible. Hope your doctor agrees to a raise. There is a book by Dr Toft, available in chemists which has pearls of wisdom for doctors and they will accept his pronouncements. "Understanding your Thyroid"( I think). I hope someone may give you a link to a relevant section.
