Ferritin low?

Hi everyone

Following recent blood tests my ferritin was 35 with a range of 25-250. Seeing gp next week so any advice on what to say gratefully received. TSH was suppressed then went up to 1.24 and has now gone down to 0.5 (range 0.7-3.8).

Thank you

do you take iron supplements? are you being treated for thyroid disease? How do you feel?

No I've got Spatone, but haven't taken any for weeks. I'm on 100mcg Levo daily. I feel rubbish but I've also multiple disorders so I never know which one is making me feel so ill! I try to keep my blood tests at an optimal level and have B12 injections.

Eventhough it is within normal range it's towards the low side so maybe you should still take the Spatone and see if you feel better with it. Good luck

Hi

My ferritin is 65 range 15 - 300

I would say yours is really low and you should be supplementing.

A lot of members say it should be over 70 but there is one member who says it should be mid range for your thyroid meds. to work properly.

I have been taking Spatone but someone has recommended Bluebonet Chelated Iron,

you can get it on Amazon so I am going to give it a try.

Best wishes browny

The ranges seem to vary wildly, mine is 20-400!! My first test showed 34, then it went down to 28 and I was still told it was fine! I am taking 2 or 3 200mg ferrous sulphate a day with 1000mg Vit C each time.

I so agree HarryE the range seems huge! Thank you for the reminder about the vitamin C - I'll get some.

My ferritin was 27 (15-150) Doc prescribed iron supplement 70 mg + 1000 mg vit C. Said this level is "borderline anaemic".

Thank you for the info Inna. I can't get a doc's appointment so I'm off to the open surgery on Monday morning. My TSH is all over the place after being suppressed for years. Just hope I get a doc that is up to date with thyroid issues. Must say my GPS are really good, thankfully.
