I have overactive thyroid, but, have put on weight. I won't take medication as they make me put on more weight. The hospital are not supportive. Can anyone recommend a private doctor. I live in Yorkshire , but it will travel , I'm so fed up.

Why won't you take medication? An overactive thyroid is very dangerous, extremely stressful on your heart. Do you have copies of your blood test results? I also put on weight before and after diagnosis, so I do understand. Perhaps when you were on meds they were giving you an excessive dose which was making you hypo? If you could give some more details of your situation that would be great.

I have to disagree with you, it does happen. I put on weight before my Graves dx as did many others on this forum, we have discussed it before. There is no benefit from using stereotypes in thyroid disease, we are all different. I imagine there's some hypos out there who lost weight?

In our experience it does happen as does the opposite - ie underactive people losing weight.
Please bear in mind that everyone is very different!
Thank you all for responding. I suffered from anorexia so the weight is a big issue . I will get my test results and let you see them. Again thanks
Even if it is the graves phase it is still overactive!!!!!

Hi I also have an overactive thyroid and have put on weight. In fact I never lost weight. Since being on carbimazole I have put on a stone and a half! So I understand.
