Diclofenac, a widely used non steroidal anti inflammatory, is not good for the thyroid. I take a lot of aspirin for migraine but am now wondering, is it causing more harm than good?

Hi Lili, there was something in the news recently about Diclofenac & Ibuprofen being linked to a higher risk of causing an irregular heartbeat that could trigger a stroke / heart attack / heart failure. But.... that the risk was the highest shortly after starting treatment and it may disappear over time. Research published in The Lancet found that Naproxen was the safest. I can't comment about aspirin, though hasn't it been hailed as the wonder drug?

I would suggest you get to the route of your headaches as taking regular pain relief meds for anything should be avoided if at all poss. To be honest though if aspirin works lucky you; but it isn't a migraine.

Just a bit of extra info. I've had migraines since I was about 11. My current drug regime is 300mcg x 3 soluble aspirin plus a caffeine drink at the first sign of a headache. If this doesn't clear it, two hours later I take a triptan with a naproxen. It works quite well, most of the time.
