I'm perimenopausal and on 100mcg thyroxine.
I was suffering with terrible hot flushes, they were so bad I couldn't sleep at night. I was prescribed clonidine initially and they worked, but then they stopped working so my GP put put me on HRT.
I had no side effects with HRT and they stopped the hot flushes. However my BP has been through the roof (HRT doesn't cause high BP but it can make it worse) so I was told to stop taking HRT 2 weeks ago. The hot flushes are gradually coming back and my GP said once they can control my BP, they will look at addressing my hot flushes.
HRT worked like a dream for me. If you suffer from hot flushes, you know how how awful they can be - I was breaking out in regular sweats through out the day (this was embarrassing as it was noticeable on my face), and then I couldn't sleep at night as I was burning up - I was exhausted.
Discuss your options with your GP, also look on line for support groups. I tried herbal remedies and also I run 4 times a week (someone mentioned earlier in the week exercise helped their mum) but nothing helped me.
Good luck
