I have been given penicillin by the doc but wondered do I have to stop Carbimazole while taking this?
Can you take antibiotics with Carbimazole? - Thyroid UK
Can you take antibiotics with Carbimazole?
thank you I thought I'd best check
no I hadn't thought of that think I will check with the doc thanks for the heads up xx
I have gum infection spoken to the doc & because I've responded well to a month on carb my dosage has been halved so doesn't think I need to go for bloods yet & ok for me to take amoxillin, but thanks for the reminder. How long have you been on carb?xx
Hi Lisa,
As far as I know it's fine to take anti-biotics. It might be best to request blood test for white cell count as p1pp1ns suggests just to be on the safe side.
Did your GP reduce carbimazole after having thyroid blood tests done?
When my son was taking Carbimazole he was given penicillin which made his throat swell so much he had trouble breathing so had to go onto antibiotics. Sorry but I can't remember which antibiotic it was. All this was 20 years ago so hopefully there are better penicillin products on the market but I think everyone is different so good look.
thank you 3 days off work now so any probs I can cope with hope your son is ok now
Thanks. I meant 'good luck' and not 'good look'. He is fine now. He has never let been diabetic and thyroid problem stop doing what he wants to do. He still plays basket ball for a town near him. That was one thing his treatment didn't stop GROWING. At 14 years old he was 8 stone and 6 feet 4 inches tall but he's grown into a fine young man. Look after yourself.
That's so encouraging thanks for sharing. I was only diagnosed 5 weeks ago so this site is an eye opener. After 2 years of feeling ill & seeing different docs I have at last found one who's on my side. So it's going to get better i'm sure. Best wished to you & your son xx
Hi that sounds interesting do you feel better. I have had big problems with my stomach for about 18 months backwards & forwards to diff docs who gave me anti-acids. I started losing weight a couple of months ago which I could have done without I weigh 7 stone now, so changed docs & thankfully got one who recognised the symptoms. I'm on week 5 so this is all new. Not been referred yet but at least I know what's wrong with me now xx
So glad you are feeling better it gives me hope ha! No referral - does everyone get this? I'm a bit naive about all this. I was elated when first diagnosed my levels were 3 times what they should be & I thought the doc would just give me tabs & I would get better I didn't realise how complex it all is. He did give me some literature, but this site is a godsend. x
Strange, I will ask the question after my next bloods in 2 weeks. Thank you so much for all the info you obviously know your stuff & thank you for taking the time to talk to me. It's a gorgeous day here (Northamptonshire) so going to enjoy being outside & relaxing. Hope it's nice where you are xx
oh my goodness you are going to have your hands full!!
I think I need to have a good talk to my GP.
Have a lovely day & i'll talk to you again if that's ok xx
Yes anytime, can post on forum or send private message either way no problem x
thank you xx
