I've already learned lots from the site thanks. I was diagnosed in 2005, after getting very tired and emotional at work. I've been on 150 micrograms since then. Was never told to take before food, just to take in the mornings.

I'll try taking it at night and see if I'm less zombied in the mornings though.

Milk is not a problem as I don't have it. Something else that can occur alongside hypothyroid is pernicious anaemia, which I also have. Double tired!! So please get your doc to check if you think it's a possibility.

Just 'keep taking the tablets'!!

Hi. Welcome!

I just wanted to clarify the 'before food' part but you may know this already.

The way to get the best out of the tablets is to take them on an empty stomach, so if taking at night you want to leave about two hours after your last food/non-water drink. You should also leave an hour before eating, so if you take in the morning, leave an hour before you put anything else besides water in your stomach. You also need to keep them away from other meds (except t3) and supplements, esp iron, which should be taken no less than four hours from levo.

Some people find that they get a better night's sleep if taking at night but it's a very individual thing.

How are you getting on with your pa? Do you get injections?

Hi

Yes I have B12 injections every 12 weeks. That takes about 4 days to actually make new RBC's so it's not an instant fix! Work is getting quite good at recognising when I'm due for a jab - I get even more 'tired and emotional'. They've been quite understanding, and my colleagues look after me..I'm very lucky that way.

As for keeping is thyroxine away from other meds, I take quite a cocktail each day, and have always just thrown them down on top of each other. I'll try spreading them out now I know a bit more about the effects on absorption. See if that makes me less tired overall.

I have read that the 3-monthly protocol that is laid down for B12 injections is often scorned by the PA sufferers. One of our best contributors for PA/B12 is not around at the moment - but I understand there is an excellent Facebook page for PA and you will no doubt be helped there too with regard to the frequency of injections. There is also a Tablet that is the same as the injection - hydroxocobalamin - which may help you. Patches ? If you need more information - shout :-)
