Where to get referred?

I have been referred to an endo, I can choose either Heartlands hospital Birmingham or Queen Elizabeth hospital Birmingham. Anyone have any experience of either/can recommend one?

Well, scrap that... 'no available appointments'. The NHS are doing so wonderfully at helping me get better... oh wait...

Hi, abcba.

Well, am I surprised ? NO !

This happened to me recently, at Northampton, When I spoke to their appointments directly, (at the hospital not the booking call centre) I was told there were 'no available appointments'. There were 45 new patients and no appointments! I spoke to the consultants secretary and she was unaware of this but couldn't do anything! I spoke to PALS and the next day they called me with an appointment for about three weeks time. So get on the phone and let them know you are anything but pleased.

Unfortunately, the 'Consultant' ? 'Endo' ? was a waste of space. My friend came with me and only then understood why I'm always going on about my thyroid. He (Consultant) had Never Even Heard of NDT, how ? can he be at Consultant level and Obviously, Never researched the background of the Thyroid ???

He said he would give me T3 next time, depending on my bloods, but if they were -normal- I wouldn't get it! Why? because if my bloods were -normal- I wouldn't need it ! Because I would be Well !!!

He Refused to acknowledge any connection between *B12 (+other vitamins) and thyroid and was Very Happy with my result of *287 (210 - 910) and said he would have been just as 'happy' with a reading of 211 or 909 as they were both 'within range'. I quoted lots (40 minutes worth) but he would leave the research to the researchers, he read their text books and followed the strict blood results, I said I was neither, I was and individual person and expected individual treatment. I would be as well being a chocolate teapot ! because I cannot see that ever happening!

I Totally Despair !!!

Please do not let me put you off, there must be some knowledgeable Endos out there, and you might find him/her. (if you do, please let me know).

I am wishing you Success, both getting an appointment and then at the appointment.

I also Apologise for turning your post into my rant - Sorry-

Best wishes, Evey.

Hi, I live in the same NHS boundaries as you but my GP referred me to a brilliant clinic at George Elliot in Nuneaton. Would you be able to travel that way?

in reply to Lettie999

I don't drive so if it's 'trainable' then yes. I've previously seen Dr Skinner for a year and Dr Boardman, but it seems no-one is able to help me so I'm just about ready to 'give up' and go back on the T4 only... I'd like to keep maybe 10mg T3 in my dose. I know the NHS endo's are anti T3 but they can't MAKE me remove it entire can they?

The royal London homeopathic hospital, and you can get a NHS referral if your GP is willing. I went with a knee problem and it was a very civilized experience.
