Hi, Could I please have some advice? If my TSH is 2.9 and my Free Thyroxine is 11.9 is that normal? I am suffering fatigue and flank pain.

Other bloods fall within normal range but Haemoglobin, Corpuscular volume etc in low normal range. C Reactive protein 0.4 (after two courses of antibiotics) Glomerular filtration 90.

Also have brain fog, neuro issues, joint pain, dry skin, loss of libido, frequent infections, etc.

Thank you for your help x

Many people believe (and I'm one of them) that your symptoms are a much more accurate guide to your thyroid status than numbers derived from a test tube. Those numbers have no basis in science or research.

You need to check other things like your Vitamin D and B12 levels and also iron, ferritin and folates. If these are checked and the levels optimised there are other routes for you to follow, but it is important to check these first. Your GP should do these tests for you.

Hi Jane,

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so tired of struggling with pain and fatigue, I just want to get to the bottom of it so that I can help myself with diet and supplements. My GP didn't test for vitamins but did test ferritin which had gone up to 40, which I think is in the normal range?

I have been referred to gynae but I think an endocrinologist would be more useful :-/

A good idea would be to post your blood results so that wise people on here can have a look at them - not me, I am not one of those, but there are plenty here who are. Don't forget to include the ranges - also your age and previous or current diagnosis, and a full list of your symptoms - I understand "flank" but not everybody does!! Good Luck Sheenah x

Hello Sheenah, just a quick note to say that the 'flank' ;-) pain seems to have been from a kidney stone which (fingers crossed) seems to have travelled from it's very painful location to somewhere more comfortable thanks to several days worth of aloe vera (cranberry flavoured) mixed with water and slippery elm, along with magnesium supplements, Epsom Salt baths and hot water bottles. :-) I just wanted to share in case anyone else has the same pain x

Hi Sheenah,

Although the nurse kindly printed off my blood results they do not show the normal ranges, just the figures. I have spent the last few hours trying to make sense of them. My GP ordered Liver Function, Thyroid Function, FBC, Urea, Bone, Ferritin.

I am 43 and have had (in approximately this order) asthma since aged 2, nasal polyps at 19, shingles at 20, alopecia since 21, pre-cancerous cells (twice) in early 20s, recurrent tonsillitus until tonsillectomy at 26, glandular fever/CFS, food allergies (cannot eat gluten or dairy, react to soy & egg, very allergic to alcohol), premature labour (emergency c-section at 29 weeks after waters broke), fibroids (removed by laparoscopy), infected cyst in nasal canal and hard palate (removed under general last year), admitted to hospital twice last year with severe abdominal and lower back pain and dehydration but no diagnosis (diverticulitis, appendicitis or Crohn's suspected, colonoscopy normal), saw neurologist several years ago for pain and weakness in right arm and hand (head & neck MRI showed wear and tear in neck but no improvement in last four years, still cannot write without pain), IBD (Constipation mostly, barium meal showed slow motility). Lately feel generally dreadful, have had repeated kidney (?) infections - shivers, blood and proteins in urine, better after amoxicillin. Have a patch of hair loss, very dry skin, flaky nails, brain fog, hopeless memory, exhausted after even a little exercise. Feel 90 rather than early 40s and like I should be put down, although asthma and eczema has pretty much gone since giving up dairy. Every cloud and all that ;-) x

Hi Donna!

Just wanted to say keep on keeping on - nag those doctors and insist you get your full results with ranges and post them onto here - the other people know their stuff and will be a real help. They certainly helped me, and if you are able to ask the right questions, it will give you more confidence to sound positive and not get over-talked by so-called professionals who might not be 'hearing' your questions. Good Luck and remember - NO QUESTION is too silly for this page - what might seem 'odd' is probably an experience for half the people on here so ask away! J.

Thankyou J :-) I am still trying to get my head around the blood results. Some of them seem normal and some are totally different. For example my MCH Hb Concentration is 337 when normal range is 32-36. I presume they have just forgotten a decimal point. My serum creatinine is 65 which some guides say is low and others say it is normal (GFR is 90). If the flank (kidney area) pain is from a stone as I suspect, would the levels be low or high? It is all so confusing, especially when you have such a fuzzy brain :-/ x
