I just wanted to share a good news story..... Saw my chosen GP in a multiple practice; ( a lady doctor) who is relatively new, I hope she stays and is not just a locum or on some sort of rotation, (don't always go for the old die hards). She listens..... my TSH is in the lower range - 0.11. She listened to how I felt rather than just following guidelines. I feel good on 100 mcg thyroxine and she has agreed to further tests for Ferritin and Folates, B 12 for a baseline. I am already on Vit D because endo found me to be insufficient before I was referred back to GP. Maybe it is how we ask the questions? Sugar tastes sweeter than vinegar! Happy bunny

Autoimmune/Hashimotos and your GP can help.......
Congrats on getting a good gp!
If you have a unhelpful/rude one, like the one who made me wait ten days while she considered whether or not she would do blood tests and then when I rang for my phone appointment she had already left the surgery for her Christmas break, meaning I had to wait, unwell, over Christmas and New Year before I could get another appointment, I'm afraid being sweet may not help.
It would be nice to think I'm in complete control of everything with nothing more than a good attitude. While being polite and cheerful makes my life easier (even if only for me) it isn't magic.
Getting a helpful gp may be even more than half the battle, so I'm really happy for you!
Dear Puncturedbicycle, sorry to hear you had to wait and had difficulties. I can only speak as I find...... having had breast cancer and then suddenly finding there were thyroid issues I have my own thoughts on what kicked off what. There is no magic...... we are all different. I am just in a good place just now. We face so many challenges......... k x
I think it's fantastic that you're getting the attention you deserve! And asking nicely is absolutely the only way to get started, and even when in conflict there is no reason to leave manners behind.
I just feel like so many of us are asking nicely, some are asking very nicely and still getting no attention, so hands up, it rubbed me the wrong way to imply, or maybe it was more that I inferred, that we're not succeeding because we're asking the wrong way.
That doesn't stop me from feeling happy for you though.
Hello again....... Perhaps we have experience of the same health environment. I only wish you had more 'choice' in who you can approach. Hope you find a sympathetic and responsive GP ............... k x
Many thanks. I'm super lucky as I do have a choice. Have had to go private as I just don't have the energy for my gp. Since someone else is handling the thyroid stuff and I'm not longer at the mercy of my surgery I have more patience with them. I will not see the doc who left me dangling (above) but aside from that they are not the best nor the worst in their field.
Good luck with your new gp. I hope she sticks around! x
Yes there are some good ones out there - I have one myself and I will always tell people that this is the crucial key - if you get a good GP you have a good chance of getting your life back.

Have a look at this recent post I did as there are some very interesting comment.

Thank you Moggie, as I said in my post I just hope the GP I have found will remain at the practice and is not on rotation or I will have to educate another one .....LOL. I am pleased to be able to keep your recent post as a reminder of how it can be for us. k x
