Has anyone gained a lot of weight after TT? I gained 12 lbs in 3 months and my eating habits have not changed.

Is there a weight loss prescription out there can help with this?

Thought about HCG, just not sure what I can take that won't interfere with my thyroid meds.

How do you feel? You may not be on a high enough dose of medication How much are you taking of what? Do you have latest blood tests with reference ranges? If so, post here for better advice on what to do.

I am on 112 mg levothyroxine and 10 Mcg of levothyronine

My TSH is .017

My T3 is 3.21

My T4 is 1.25

This blood test was taken A.m before food

I was on 125 mg levothyroxine but Dr lowered my dose.

Still gaining weight, now I am looking for a weight loss option/pill so I can feel like myself again. Ugh

Try writing it like this!

T4 Free (0.8-1.80 ng/ dL) 1.25

T3 Free (2.3-4.2 pg/ mL) 3.21

TSH (0.34-4.82 uIU/ mL) 0.17

Sorry, I just copied and pasted!

The theory is that when you're on the right (enough) meds weight will self-regularise. This can be a long search. Not everyone puts on weight when their thyroid function decreases. Some folk on here have successfully dieted against their lack-of-thyroid's desire to pile on the pounds - but it's hard. I have done it. The weight was back, with extras, in around 6 months. Some folks reckon it helps to be gluten-free.

Which is all to say that losing weight, if you've gained it as a result of having your thyroid function reduced or eliminated, is not easy.

I M H O one of the most important things you need to do in this situation (before you even start on the diets etc) is to re-evaluate YOU. I permitted 'friends' to destroy my self-confidence when the weight began to pile on. All I was, was what I weighed. It has taken 5 years or so for me to find a sense of self-worth again. Do not let the extra weight reduce (!) you. Concentrate on the positive things in your life and the things you are good at. Buy clothes that fit; don't go on wearing the ones you OUGHT to be able to fit into (and can't) that look sausage-skin tight. This last will, actually, make you look slimmer!

Good luck!

I put on 2&1/2 stone in 10 weeks post TT with no change in diet! I had many problems with thyroid replacement but now am reaching the right dose for me and the weight is slowly starting to reduce, again with no change in diet (as the lovely Dr S said it would). It may be that your dose is not high enough. I think it is important to eat a healthy diet after such major surgery and concentrate on all the other things (dose, bloods, well-being etc) and not put your body under extra strain by dieting. Hard I know!

Hi,

I put on about 2 stone post tt and had other hypo syptoms despite being on a constant diet . I was initially on 100 thyroxine. They wanted to lower this as they said TSH was supressed, but I argued that I felt underactive. I didn't stop gaining weight until I was on 150 thyroxine. I didn't manage to lose weight until T3 was added to the mix. For about a year I was on 112.5 T4 on waking and 10 T3 3 x per day. On this dose I experienced normal weight gain/ loss. I have recently switched to T3 only and weight stable. Sandra

It encouraging to hear that everyone else has experience a similar weight gain, atleast I know I am not crazy! Lol my next blood work is in two weeks so maybe I will my meds adjusted to where my weight will stabilize.

I know it's important to love yourself for who you are, but the whole weight gain and TT is new to me so it has been a rough road. Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement, have a great day:)
