By NHS T3 do you mean Mercury Pharma Liothyronine T3?

I use Mercury Pharma OK but I am aware that it is less active than some others. I have partially active but deteriorating thyroid and am on 60mcg a day. I used a German product Thybon and it was at least 25% more active. I take it as exactly the same time and dose each day. If I am late with a dose I dive quickly and don't recover until next day. Also noticed a cold or anything like that throws me.

My NHS T3 (5mcg tablet) is manufactured by Paddock.

I am still hypo (also taking 75mcg Activis Levothyroxine).

I am hoping my GP will increase the T3 once today's blood results are in.

in reply to Parbrook

Paddock? Do they only supply mini doses?

Sorry, I have no idea, as this is my only T3 experience.

Not to worry, you'll soon know x

Paddock make 5mcg and 25mcg tablets. They are a USA company.

I have certainly notice a drop in the efficacy of the Liothyronine I am taking, made by MercuryPharma of course, as they are the only ones licensed to do so in the UK... which is why they have us all (including the NHS which have to stump up an obscene £58 for just 28 tablets!!!) over a barrel! I am having to increase my dose by at least 30% just to feel as well as I was before they 'ran out' and the ridiculous shortage occurred. During that time, I luckily managed to get my brother who lives in Greece to get me a supply of T3 and send them over, and quite frankly I prefer to take these! I have certainly put in a yellow card about this drop in efficiency and I know others have too, but I don't really know how to find out whether this has had any results... Perhaps Helvella can advise...

This is scandalous. Surely this has to be regulated somewhere- testing the potency. I noticed feeling unwell last January 2013, but the GP decided to reduce my dose down to half I was taking. These GPs have no idea how it works- we moved house and had to move GPs unfortunately, the other GPs are miles away. I have submitted 3 yellow cards and the GPs have had copies but failed to do anything. Isnt there a way to contact a higher source?

You are, I fear, out of date. Last validated price was over £100, and that was very recent, if I remember correctly.

We will only ever find out the impact of yellow cards in the fullness of time. Unless they precipitate some sort of recall or an investigation which requires getting hold of samples from patients.
