Eltroxin IS levothyroxine.

You could take a prescription for "Levothyroxine" into a pharmacy and come out with a packet of Eltroxin. If they had any.

UK Eltroxin is DIFFERENT to the various Eltroxin formulations around the world. As UK Eltroxin is not currently available, I doubt you will be able to buy it anywhere.

If you mean that you are unhappy with the levothyroxine product you are currently getting (Actavis, Wockhardt or Mercury Pharma), then you might be able to get one of the others next time you get your prescription.

Thanks Rod. What I should have said was that I don't want to go back to the brand I had before....I know they are all levothyroxine....silly me....

:-)

I have seen lots of posts over the years (in many places) from people who really did not know that Eltroxin is levothyroxine! So I had to make it clear for anyone reading.

What do you wish to avoid? Is it a specific make?

If you're in the UK you can buy generic levothyroxine here without a prior script with an easy online medical consultation reliablepharm.com

hope this helps

Still not available. I now doubt it will ever return to the UK market.

UK Eltroxin is currently unavailable, so anything called Eltroxin that you might be able to buy now is unlikely to be the same as the Eltroxin that you have been prescribed with in the UK.

Eltroxin is simply a 'brand name' of levothyroxine and this brand name is used by more than one pharmaceutical company. For example, there is a levothyroxine called Eltroxin that's made by Aspen (not available in the UK), but the non-active ingredients are different to the UK Eltroxin. Having the same brand name on the box does not mean the tablets inside are the same, nor that they will have the same effect for you.

If you can't get on with the Actavis or MercuryPharma levothyroxines, it might be worth asking your GP to prescribe one of the German products from Aluid or Henning. Easily obtainable through your pharmacy by special order from their importer, but your GP may not be aware of this until you tell him/her. That is an oddity! And it gives rise to several questions:

Has it too changed in the same way as Mercury Pharma levothyroxine appears to have changed?

Are there any Irish pharmacies that would sell to individuals in the UK - with or without a prescription? (Please don't answer with any actual contacts! Leave details to Private Messages.)

We have seen much speculation as to why Eltroxin is not available. If it is actually not up to UK standards, why is it all right for the Irish?

What dates are on the packs? That is, is it really new product or is it trickling out from some large store somewhere?

We think that it usually has a two year shelf life - so that was probably made before it disappeared at the beginning of 2013.

So we could still lose it?? Oh dear..

Look on the bright side - it might be back on the market before you lose it... :-)

(Yes - that doesn't make sense!)
