Since my dose has reduced from 175mcg to 150mcg I have been catching everything going tonsillitis, cold, chest infection, and diarrheoa (sp?) would this be due to my lower dose? Should I contact my oncologist as they control my dose?? I just don't know where to turn!!

When's your next blood test due? If you're undermedicated it can compromise your ability to withstand and fight off infection. You might ask for your ferritin, vitD, B12 & folate to be tested too. Deficiencies and low in range results are common after TT and can lower your resistance. Remember to request a print out of your results & lab range refs in case you want to post and discuss.
In the meantime, try 1000mg vitC which helps absorption of nutrients and levothyroxine. It can cause diarrhoea so you may want to halve the dose for the first few days.
My next bloods are due in feb. Had some done in dec and it was found I was over medicated hence the reduction but I have never been this ill continuously even before my TT. I did ask my doctor last time I was there but she didn't know how to do it :/
Thank you for the reply x
It could be related to your lower dose, I've experienced the same problem. Have never had B12 folate or vit d checked so don't know if this was my problem, but my health improved with increased dose. Good luck
Thank you for the reply. I will ring my oncologist later and see what she says x
You could suggest doing alternated days between your old dose and your new one. I've stayed relatively free from colds or cold related things which I've put down to taking zinc tablets. At one time I was helping out in several schools but kept healthy. Just an idea! You may need to look into taking supplements, vitamins and minerals and these should help your thyroid as well
was your t4 reduced because of bloods. Well it shouldn't have been. Were you not asked how you felt before they reduced your meds. If you felt alright on 175 why don't you take that again and see if you improve. Then you can tell your oncologist what you have done. Don't just let him reduce your meds, it's supposed to be a two way thing between you and the dr and an agreement come to. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I couldn't speak to my oncologist just her secretary and she said my symptoms weren't to do with the lowering of my dose but will pass the message on to her and if she got different advice she would fone me back but I heard nothing xx
I was started on 175mg of thyroxine or levothyroxine and now on 150mg. I get colds a lot especially in Winter. How long have you had a thyroid condition? Mines congenital (from birth).
