I'm scheduled for the surgery in the next couple of months but want to be sure that it's the best option.

I have a multi-nodular thyroid which is also covered in cysts. Is full thyroidectomy the only option?
Without knowing your symptoms, size & type of cysts etc. I doubt anyone, even a doctor, can advise you.
You are, however, entitled to ask for a second medical opinion and should discuss all options before committing yourself.
I would urge you to do this if there is any chance that alternative therapy or partial thyroidectomy will resolve your problems.
I found surgery straight forward and relatively painless. Adjusting to replacement hormone has been very difficult as I don't do well on Levothyroxine and that, increasingly on NHS, is the only therapy available.
Hi
I am considering radioactive iodine treatment for my large, multinodular goitre. Mine causes slight compression and narrowing of my trachea. My endo will not consider surgery. The treatement will most likely leave me hypo and will shrink the goitre by around 50% over time - probably 30 - 40% in the first year and up to 50% in around 3-5 years. I guess that it depends on how quickly you need the bulk of your goitre reduced whither this would be suitable for you (and other medical issues etc.)
If you are unsure about your operation, please do ask for a second opinion - my mother and sister both had partial thyroidectomies and lived/live medication free. However, they only had nodules on one side of their thyroids.
Take care.

See if you can find an applied Kiniesiologist to visit. Mine has been brilliant and if I had known about Kiniesiology and more about the Tyroid I would have gone to see one BEFORE I had my op IT may have saved my thyroid and saved me an operation to boot. I urge you to give it a go.
I gave up taking Levothyroxine a month ago now and I feel great. I look after what's left of my thyroid with sea kelp as and when necessary, but thanks to my practitioner my whole endocrine system is in balance, probably the first time for over 10 years.
Our bodies are very good at doing their own healing, sometimes they just need a helping hand by upping the natural elements we are short of.
My grandson spent two years under the doctor as he had developed CFS. With the GP it was pain clinic and depression (the cope out diagnosis when they can't help) but, within 6 months of seeing Jenny (Kiniesiologist) sticking to her guidelines re foodstuffs to avoid (temporarily) and food supplements he is now back at college doing his A levels and coping really well.
Please give it a go. It's worth a shot.
