Hi i.m trying to find out if having thyroid problems can be linked to stomach cancer and i tell you why i.m asking. Firstly one side of my family my nan had a puturity gland tumour she died at 54 after bad treatment after removal doctors not giving right drugs. Then my other side where thyroid problems runs through my aunts and uncles and now me. But also this side also seems to be stomach cancer my nan died in her 70s from cancer it had spread everywhere time they found out she had it , a year and half ago my cousin died from a rare form of stomach cancer at the age of 35 prob would of survived if found earlier but doctors took 4 years to find out she had it which was to late died 4 months later and now i just lost my uncle aged 56 from stomach cancer lost is battle after fighting it for a year and a half just before christmas. They did say with my cousin she had a rare form of cancer very rare in someone so young and its inherited parents didn.t want to be tested as neither of them wanted to know it was their fault which i understand but coming from a large family it leaves the rest of us worrying if we have it also so far 4 family members have had cameras down and up them after worrying symptoms. My nan with puturity gland was adopted so no family history but she did have giganticisum slighty my family say .

Hi Never heard of a link. Although can be linked to GORD and Gastritis, even then unusual. More likely there is a link to the hereditary factor in the cancer. I am sorry that your family are having such problems. It may be possible to have a gene test, I do not know as medicine has advance so much now. However, it cannot be treated until it happens, so best to always just be aware of it, like lots of conditions.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hello, I'm so sorry to hear of your family losses, and quite understand your concern.

There is a genetic problem that can be at the root of both thyroid problems and cancer. We only found out about it this year as my daughter has it. 10 years ago I lost my husband at only 57 from what we now know was probably the same chronic illness. Look at this link: momsaware.org/symptoms-of-m... Thankfully there is treatment.

I have a lot more information about it and have posted on here about it several times. Let me know if you want more information. Jane x

It's so sad to read about your family's problems with stomach cancer.

I seem to remember reading that B12 deficiency raises the risk of stomach cancer and vice versa, and I found this link:

"Pernicious Anemia Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and ...

medicinenet.com › home › pernicious anemia index

by Dr. Melissa Stöppler

4 Dec 2013 - Pernicious Anemia and Vitamin B-12 Deficiency. It also raises the risk for developing stomach cancer. Common signs and ..."

Thanks for the replies i read your link janeb alot of symptoms are like thyroidisum aswell also do we get toxic mold in uk i.m not so sure on that but will look further into it as my uncle was a builder and ex miner. I.m just trying to make sure i.m not going to have it its taken 3 years to finally get treated and who's to know that anyone with this problem as not got a tumour somewhere . I think i have the hashimotos has i high antibodies but thyroid is border line to fine the doc said but is treating me on 50mg of levo cause of my symptoms.

Toxic mould can cause BOTH thyroid problems and cancers. There is some recognition (not in the UK sadly) of CCI's (Chronic Complex Illnesses) which can be very confusing and often wrongly treated. My daughter has had a combination 2 stealth viruses, Lyme Disease and mould toxins finally diagnosed in the USA after chasing shadows for over 20 years. Check the work of Dr. Shoemaker on his site:survivingmold.com/diagnosis

and also get a copy of Dr. Nathan's book "On Hope and Healing" if you can. I think it is now out in an updated form and under a new name. The problem arises as 25% of the population is genetically unable to eliminate the mould, virus and Lyme toxins from the body.

I must stress again however that it IS treatable once diagnosed.

Dr. Nathan's book is what led us to go to the USA for diagnosis and treatment.

Hi Antonia26,

I am very interested in your story, you mentioned your Nan having Gigantism slightly. may I ask if this when she was a child or as an adult ?

(Gigantism/Overgrowth = Child) or (Acromegagly = Adult.)

I believe there could be a connection with tumor/pituitary connected to the stomach, I am a Grandmother (amateur researcher,) researching a connection for a Child with 'Overgrowth' like symptoms. Child has just had an MRI brain scan, but if nothing is found I feel the child needs checking in the stomach area too as what I read a while ago about Overgrowth/Tumor/pituitary/stomach also connects with child's symptoms.

in reply to Coastwalker

Hi Coastwalker me again (Dad with acromegaly)

I wasn't going to contribute to this one as it's indirect really - pituitary, yes a connection to bowel cancer, sorry... - Dad was specifically told this but tested OK (barium meal, camera etc.). As for stomach cancer I'm under the impression this is more likely to be H Pylori/ulcer related? I don't pretend to know, just passing on what I've heard, in case it may help someone, in no way meaning to cause any distress or worry. J :D x

Thanks Spareribs will look up your link, funny that Low vit D keeps cropping up everywhere are are they taking it out of our foods (cost cutting) without telling us, makes you wonder, read somewhere they now take iodine out of I think it was some breads,? though might be making that one up again :)

I wrote back to antonia26 (below post) again if you are interested. :)

in reply to Coastwalker

He's lucky to have you fighting his corner, any pituitary testing yet? I wish I knew which tests Dad had (it just showed up on an x-ray as he'd hit his head). J xx

apologies antonia for slight hijack of your post

Does the MRI scan count as pituitary testing, not sure, but Daughter's letter that came yesterday said they will check the white spots but only mentioned 2, daughter counted 5.

More mentioning in letter of Mum breaking down and crying (in frustration,) pushing for Mum to be tested for mental test yet again, ( even though Local Doctor, Social Services and last Endo said it wasn't necessary now ?????????? Oh! they actually realize she doesn't have a mental problem.) Why start that one up all over again then, it's enough to push someone over the edge.

Daughter can't be mental as she was employer of the month at the same time she was meant to have mental problems. Mother also has a child in the middle of being diagnose with a type Autism, so poor Mum has plenty on her plate as it is.

Also mentioned they would, (words to the effect, dismiss Grandmother's (my) concern about more thyroid testing as the results came back as NORMAL.

Now that is a concern as many patients with thyroid problems bloods often come back normal, isn't it to do with not converting T4 to T3 ? As happened to myself ?

Also had bloods come back with the letter from the last hospital, but so complicated for each one, will try to get them up on here somehow.

Sorry to rattle on Spareribs, but so frustrated myself. X .

The link to stomach cancer and piturity gland is men1 or men2 i think theres the rare gene you can have . My nans tumour was picked up from an eye test and we.re going back 25 years ago now she was losing her eye sight see even though she wore glasses sometimes.if u don.t mind me asking what are the signs in a child with gigantism if you look online you mainly get the worse symptoms not what its like gradually.

This Child when a baby before eating solids was over sized all over up, till around 5/6yrs.When classmates catch up (same mentioned in Giantism/overgrowth.)

Hugh head neck shoulders, spade sized hands, sausage width fingers, huge and extra wide feet, (shoes had to be made) strong chunky build rather than obese, coarse hair, very wide features on face, sleep apnoia, hyper overactive, over sweats, extremely hot, 4stone at aged 4, 6 stone at aged 6. At aged 5 in size 14/15 shirts. Now 7stone at 7. Two specialist Doctors commented on child's unusual skull shape.

Gigantism is only up till puberty and child's growth plates grow over. Don't think child continues to grow excessively later. Adults start Acromegagly after Puberty and after their growth plates grow over.

Unfortunately Daughter sought help early, but nothing much done till recently when the major signs, (if it is this condition,) are less noticeable.

Daughter recently remembered child's dentist saying most unusual for teeth to fall out at just aged three, another connection between overgrowth of bone, (alsocalcium maybe.?)

Also a broken elbow bone was found to have overgrowth on it, being checked again soon, will need another op.

They have reluctantly done an MRI scan, hopefully nothing will be found, but Parents have worried so long it needed to be done.

5 White calcium spots that should have dispersed when a baby have grown larger in size in stomach area and Mum has seen them again on screen. These white spots can be of concern if in or around major organs, ie Downs Syndrome.

I'm doing research and finding that 2+2 = 5, grasping at straws, but child's weight gain is certainly unusual, siblings are not affected, could even be a simple connection to not converting T4 to T3 or not enough vit D3. We think a thyroid connection. They just say obese. If just obese child would be just of normal height and obese, not abnormal in build. Many friends and family point out child is of a strong muscular build, but medics apart from two Doctors who's hands are tied don't seem to see it.

Whilst Child's Mum is being blamed for the child's weight, though not affecting siblings, I will continue to fight on child's behalf by doing my amateur research :)

All we're asking of them is to make sure there is no tumor connection like another child Parents know with an identical problem and same build, who now has an unopperable tumor, who also had bloods done at Gt.Ormond St which came back normal, same as our childs. Then leave our poor child alone and just accept that he is a normal child with just a bigger chunkier build, not someone who does't tick or fit into the school nurses weight/height charts, until then I shall crusade on, can't give up antonia26. :)

Good on you funny enough my son who i think might have something wrong with is thyroid but being looked at for adhd instead cause he.s hyper all the time sweats alot is hands and feet are the worst he has so much energy chunkier than my other kidsis very naughty due to this. Also when pregnant on him he had thickened skin on back of neck also had a white area in is stomach area on is scans so they thought it was downs so had to be refered to a specialist had scans every month he was 9lb 4 born all normal he is left handed we.re all right handed and he has only 1 line on 1 hand .don.t know if this helps at all.

Funny enough Antonia, our chunky boy is also Hyperactive despite his build, runs round everywhere when other kids walk, he never stops. Sweats a lot too, over smelly feet, has man boobs, our child was also born around the same weight and is left handed, will check his hand when I can. mum today says he is now 7stone 7 size 4 feet now. Still at infant School.

This is not just obesity. It has to be connected to Thyroids.

Have you too got tangled up with Social yet ? (to do with the school nurse ?)

Do you break down in tears or get upset when 'they' don't believe you ?

ADHD is also another avenue for us to go down, ADHD is also connected to Thyroids, but gradually 'they' are giving up on us as time wasters.

Please keep in touch antonia26 as we might need to 'bounce' of each other. :)
