I have felt terrible for a few days after each increase and am now on 200mcg. Was due a review with Dr Skinner which has obviously been cancelled. Wondering if thyroxine does not agree with me.

Could you define terrible - exactly what is happening and how much more do you intend to increase by?

The more info you can give us on here the better we will be able to answer your question.

Have you got any blood results you can post so that we can see what is going on.

Dear Moggie,

By terrible I mean really tired and depressed. I have increased meds by 50mcg. My last TSH was 0.48 which is a big drop from the 3.78 it was when I saw Dr Skinner.

Have you had any of your vitamins checked - B12, VitD, Iron, Ferritin & Folates. Being low in iron, VitD or B12 can give you thyroid like symptoms and people often get confused with the two. I thought my thyroid meds weren't working for me so persuaded my GP to give me T3 only to find that I had low iron, low VitD and low B12. Once these were all sorted out I had to reduce my thyroid meds quite a bit.

If any of the above mentioned vitamins are low then your thyroid meds will be unable to work properly so I would suggest you try and get these checked as soon as possible instead of continuously increasing your meds.

If you can only get one done at a time I would suggest your iron first, because of the extreme tiredness and see what that shows up.

Hi,

How long have you been taking thyroxine for? It could be that you need to also take T3 as your body might be unable to convert the t4 (thyroxine) to t3 which is biologically active.

No amount of thyroxine is of any use to you if you are unable to convert it to t3.

Might be worth having a chat to your gp xx

You could try going down by 25mcg per day.

Hi, how do you know your basal temperature..

Normal oral temperature is 37°C (98.6°F). If your temperature is lower it is possible you are hypothyroid. NHS arent very interested in basal temp as a hypothyroid symptom.

Temperature should be taken on waking, without moving if possible. Then at 3/4 hr intervals until final bedtime temp check.
