I have now heard from Afshan that the family would like to say goodbye to Dr Skinner privately.
However, two memorials to celebrate his life and work will be arranged in the new year, one in Glasgow, which he loved, and one in Birmingham. Everyone will be welcome to attend. I will let you know as soon as I have been told when these will be held.
If anyone would like to make a donation, Dr Skinner's wishes were that these should go to The Vaccine Research Trust. A donation page will be set up as soon as possible and I will let you have details of this as soon as I know.
Dr Skinner’s Clinic will be closed until Monday 9th December 2013. In an emergency could all patients please contact their Family Practitioners.

Good. I'm pleased they've chosen to do things that way. Jane x
If anyone has already sent Thyroid UK a donation, please drop us an email or phone call to let us know if you would like us to destroy the cheque so that you can donate to the Vaccine Research Trust instead, thank you.
Yes I think its the right decision. It must be very difficult when ones loved one is such a public figure and I know there will be many like myself would wish to say goodbye as well so a memorial service in both Glasgow and Birmingham and a private family service gives us all chance to say good bye to a wonderful caring man who has fought so hard to give us all a better life. I'm sure none of us will ever forget him and we must continue to keep his ideals alive and hopefully moving forward.
I would really like to make his memorial service one attended by thousands and call the TV stations. Gordon's anger at the failure of the current system to listen to patients or to look beyond the TSH test should really get a voice. A brave and principled man, not bullied into conforming, but steadfastly standing up for the rights of the patient, we will all be worse off without him. God Bless you Dr Skinner.
Yes I agree, many people have met at the hearings that Dr Skinner was forced into, so many friendships formed. There will be two further opportunities to join force at the memorial services.
Thank you Lynn for keeping us all informed -such terribly sad news to read -such a shock -i have only just found out. What a massive loss for his family and for us all in thyroid world.
GOD BLESS THE MAN WHO HELPED SO MANY AND FOUGHT FOR THYROID LEVELS TO BE CHANGED ....REST IN PEACE A LOVELY LOVELY MAN .....SO SAD AT THIS NEWS ....YOU THINK WE WILL LAST FOREVER BUT NO IT IS NOT SO ......DEDICATION TO THE CAUSE ......
Having just heard the news of Dr Skinner's passing yesterday, I am so, so sad. He helped me after 18 years of debilitating symptoms when no GP would. I will always be grateful to him. a wonderful courageous man who always made me laugh out loud, I will miss him terribly, RIP Dr Gordon Skinner.
I'm a patient of Dr Skinners & have just found out. I'm absolutely mortified as I only just saw him in October, 2013. My heart felt thoughts to his family. I also have a qu. My gp does not understand thyroids like Dr Skinner did, is there anyone Dr Skinner may have recommended? I will still see a specialist as they actually listen! So I'd like to see one that holds similar views to Dr Skinner. Thank you.
