Hair Loss and re growth?

If you are Hypothyroid,at what point do you normally start to lose hair ?.......Is it before diagnosis,once you start Thyroxine or once you have been on it for sometime?

In response to your original question henrythewasp (great name BTW) - how long is a piece of string?! I initially presented to my GP with hair loss thinking it was due to early menopause (another symptom of Hypo apparently!) & she thought to check my thyroid function... Now I'm taking Levo a side effect of which I understand is also hair loss...so a double whammy! Bring on the crazy old lady purple wig!!

I have read that the hair loss on some people has been after taking the thyroxine, but I only went to the doctors after my hair started falling our and mine was on the right side of my head only that was when I had a blood test and the doc said I had underactive thyroid and gave me 25 thyroxine I have taken this for 1 month and not any improvement in hair yet but feeling more alive so I can honestly say that it was not the treatment that made my hair fall out but the thyroid it wah the hairloss that made me go to the doctor I am still waiting to get my hair back (I Hope) as I have always had such good thick healthy hair. My daughter who works and trained at Lo.real has adived me not to colour and she assures me that some of my hair is returning although albeit it looks a lot like baby hair
