Hair loss still slowed but still no real growth

With my med increase I still see continued reduced shedding. But I am not seeing growth like I would have expected now.

They levo must do enough to just reduce the shedding or slow it down again but does not do enough to make significant regrowth

Hi Jump1,

Unfortunately it takes a while to reverse hair loss. My private endo told me it can take up to a year of optimal treatment before seeing regrowth. I noticed improvement after 8 months. Also, I consulted a good nutritionist who said to up my B vitamins (especially B12), Vit C, and iron intake (do blood tests first to confirm which needs improvement), to eat good quality protein, and cut back on sugar (which I don’t eat; at least I had this right). So there is no quick fix, and your thyroid levels and vitamin levels need to be right first.

I hope you get there in the end, I know from experience how distressing hair loss can be. Everyone around me said, ‘it’s just hair!’ Which didn’t help at all! But with perseverance it can improve.

Yes the it's just hair statement breaks and broke my heart. What way did it affect your hair? Did your strands thin? Do you mean 8 months from treatment started or 8 months from optimal treatment

I'm delighted to finally hear from someone who has had improvement with treatment.

I estimate that I'd lost at least 1/3 of my hair, and what was left became very course, although massaging coconut oil in weekly or so helped for this. It took 8 months from optimal treatment before I noticed regrowth.

My hair when this started before they would treat my thyroid became very coarse and dry. But over the years as it fell out the replaced hair became weak and thin. Fly away. Has been regrowth but not what lost and the thickness hasn't returned to the strands. They remain really poor quality. What were your thyroid levels. Mine weren't bad compared to others I was considered the your borderline about to become hypo even though you have hashimotos So we won't treat you for a long time. 5 years before treatment

Sorry to say but am in the same boat. I now have 1/3 of the amount of hair I used to have. Really do understand and sympathize - just wish there was more we could do.

I have also been having more hair loss and for the past several months my hair has slowly went from pin straight to wavy…. Im not complaining but it is pretty strange.

Mine went from super thick straight strands like horses hair. To spidy thin hair that tangles and breaks so easily.

Mine is super fine and a lot straighter. Used to be really thick and super curly.

What about the rest of your body hair?

I agree with Zelda R. It’s essential to up your vitamins, especially all the B vitamins. Buy the best you can afford from Amazon (‘bioavailability ‘ is important) Eat a large piece of liver once a week ( cooked with a freshly squeezed orange is a very good idea I think. . It reduces any bitterness and helps the iron to absorb. ) Don’t overdo it, but a little zinc tablet once every couple of days could help and above all, eat well: Lots of fruit, green veg, meat , fish , dark chocolate, whatever, but try to keep away from anything with sugar!

Using volume adding products on your hair ( you need to try different things - nothing heavy!) plus a spray with nutrients for hair and perhaps a shampoo with caffeine can all help. It is inestimable how we suffer when our hair gets thin! A big hug !
