Hi keb5332,

If the tingling gets worse and especially if it goes to your face phone NHS24 (or whatever the service is in your area). If it doesn't get much worse, still check with your GP. It sounds as though your parathyroid glands may not have settled down after your TT and you might need calcium supplements.

I had a TT about 11 years ago and I had to go back to hospital after a few days for intravenous calcium. At the time the surgeon said he could only find two parathyroids as the other two appeared to be swallowed up in the goitre but he hoped the two surviving ones would be OK, though might take a while to settle. After a while on Adcal D3 it looked OK, but when I stopped taking them calcium levels dropped again and so I now take calcium supplements all the time.

Wishing you a good recovery

Sorry I don't know anything about calcium levels but I had these symptoms for two days post op in hospital and was given milk to drink and was told it was because of my parathyroids being disturbed. In fact I was not discharged home until the tingling had stopped. I had heaviness in my legs for the first week post op. I think you should talk to your doctor ASAP in case it's serious.

Tingling hands and feet were a hypo symptom for me. It may be that your thyroid hormone levels are a bit low? Xx

When I had my TT and told the same. They clipped the parathyroid which apparently is not usual and that affects your calcium levels. Told by the surgeon that I should expect tingling in my fingers, arms and legs for around two weeks. Was given large dose calcium tablets to take. I did actually take them for longer, probably about a month for the sensation to settle down. But I was getting my levels checked fortnightly and you should ask for the same. My level was round 1.98 which apparently was two low.

Hi I also had very bad tingling around my mouth lips and tongue after my tt I now take calcium tablets twice a day and expect that I will need them for life as my parathyroid glands were damaged during surgery you need to see your doctor if it continues or gets worse, linda

Thank you all. I am seeing my GP this afternoon to see what he says. I thought it maybe down to the calcium levels but these were checked before leaving hospital and I was told they were fine. I didn't realise the symptoms may appear days later.

Hi krb5332 I had the same problem after subtotal thyroidectomy and was given intravenous calcium/vit d for a week before it settled, now take alfacalcidol daily and calcium on an ad hoc basis. The other thing to consider is B12. Have you had it checked lately? Was your op done using nitrous oxide? erowid.org/chemicals/nitrou...
