Hi - I had a blood test last week which came back as 'normal'. I asked for the results and was told that my TSH was 5.59 and my T4 was 12.5. Is this normal? Should I be taking any medication??? Don't know if this is related, but I'm just not sleeping at the moment :(. Thanks for any assistance.

Have you got reference ranges? Cannot be sure until you obtain those. If you post again, someone can comment.
If I were you I would ring up the receptionist at your surgery and ask for the results again - with the ranges - and if your result is over the top range (she will say something like 0.25 - 5.00) then your GP should not be ignoring it. He shouldn't be ignoring it anyway, not with a TSH of 5.59 together with your symptoms, but its getting more and more common for GP's to ignore a TSH results unless it is over the top range - which is totally wrong and can leave people feeling very ill, but this is what is happening.
If your result is over the top reference range then ask the receptionist to make you an appt so that you can talk to a GP regarding these results and symptoms, even is it isn't above the range I personally would still be booking an appt as you are obviously suffering and need to get it sorted.

If you were in the USA you would be on treatment once your TSH is 3. I don't know why they take no notice of clinical symptoms, probably because they don't know them.
Thanks for your responses. I'm away on holiday for a week from tomorrow so I'll call the Drs on my return. They really are pretty hopeless though. I think I'm also suffering from a bit of brain fog (but then again it might be my age!). I keep forgetting words for things when I'm talking. It's really embarrassing sometimes
