This seems to be a very common theme in the NHS at the moment! I would love to reply to the poll but sadly too many doctors believe that if your TSH is normal, your t3 must be fine!

Hi Carolyn, thanks for your reply, i have had 6 people reply , all say the same, GP's only testing TSH, is there anything we can do about this?

Also I hope I have not done anything wrong, incase they should be "voting for the poll" instead of replying to me.

My doctor said she would try and get a T3 test through (but thought it would be rejected) as my TSH is slight elevated and my T4 fine but I am suffering extreme hypo symptoms. She said we are one of the lucky ones, our trust will do T4 readings!

Ridiculous, doctors don't seem to understand enough about these readings for Hashimotos patients as it is. I have been sightly hypo for the last year with a TSH of 2.6 and T4 of 17, suffering symptons of fibromyalgia and tiredness and dizziness which got progressively worse as my TSH rose to 3.8, T4 still 17. Evidently a T4 of 17 isn't enough for me personally and if I had had low T3 reading in my annual blood test we could probably have prevented me feeling unwell for the last 9 months. It is only going to cost the NHS more in the long run as more of us will want to see Endos if we cant get ourselves feeling well with random TSH readings. Fight our corner and good luck.

When I asked for Vitamin D, Folate, Ferritin and B12 tests, the doctor decided to do a load more including thyroid. I asked for T3, etc, and she said there wasn't an option to request it, just TSH and T4. Literally a case of "computer says no"! Then again, I had to explain to her what T3 was.

The only time I was able to get FT3 done was when my endo requested it. Doctor wrote on form that it had been requested by endo and I was on T3.

Prior to that, even when the doctor asked for it, it never came back - just ignored by the lab.

My GP actually wrote on the blood test form that I was taking T3 and then highlighted it and they still did not test it.

Same here. They have tested for T3 a couple of times in the past, but now I'm on T3 they don't, even when asked. Makes no sense that I can see, but then when did making sense ever matter?
