I have been to my doctors surgery today and spoken to the woman on reception about this, she looked at my print off that i had clearly stating Serum TSH Level......Above range.....9.0 mui/L ( 0.3-5.0) suggests under replaced with thyroxine-outside range,i also showed her the letter that was sent to me after my blood test stating....The result of your recent TFT blood test suggests that you continue on your current dose of Levothyroxine and will repeat the blood test in 3 months, please can you make an appointment nearer that time. She told me yes its all ok and within range but not to take her word for it so she will make an appointment to see a doctor. You never get to see the same one here for some reason,i think its a drop off before they get a permanent surgery, they come and go within a matter of weeks. Can anyone please advise me on how i can fight this if the doctor says yes you are in range, clearly i am not and the result says so.

I would ask if you can have at least your T4 tested as well. My experience is that they are reluctant to test T3 unless on T3 replacement. Do you feel unwell on your current dose? It is worth investing in the book by Dr Toft 'Understanding Thyroid Disorders'. It is published in association with BMA so hopefully they won't dispute that. I think it was about £5 from Amazon. He says ' in some patients a sense of well-being is achieved only when T4 raised and TSH low or undetectable' (this is paraphrased). It is my experience that you need to go with evidence to back your request. Good luck.

Sorry forgot to say Dr Toft also says tests should not be interpreted in isolation and the aim is for TSH to be in the lower part of the range when on replacement.

Hi I would ask GP for a vit D, Ferritin and B12 blood tests, also Diabetes. Then if the GP will not also do Free T3, it sounds to me as if your FT3 is too low. Then the only way is to have a Free T3 tests ( also TSH, and T4) test on line. Choose a well know co., I use Blue Horizon. If FT3 not high in range ( never over) then ask the GP for a trial of T3 with the thyroxine., showing them your blood result. This will not improve if not on the correct treatment for you. I suspect the 3 months is costs. When I first started treatment, it was only my FT3 that was out, in fact below range. I actually have hashi, bad nodules and swollen etc.

Best wishes,

Jackie
