This seems to be a very 'weak' theory. They haven't compared this with any of the other treatments for hypothyroidism and haven't ruled out hypothyroidism being the cause of the increase in prevalence of lung cancer. They also haven't correlated against TSH and T4 levels to even give a slight clue as to whether the lung cancer is related to over- or under-replacement of thyroid hormones. What happens to people on T3, T4/T3 combo and NDT? A lot more investigation is needed before this tells us anything useful.

The assumptions that the person writing the paper has made are purely conjecture, given the lack of evidence, and are potentially damaging for any cause to improve thyroid treatment as they stand.

Thanks for sharing with us :)

Agreed Carolyn,

If taken as a tantalising suggestion for more research, it might be interesting.

As a cause of people rushing headlong into changing their treatment, it has the potential to cause significant damage.

Thyroid UK is trying to change how thyroid patients are treated and make it so that alternative treatments are available for anyone for whom levothyroxine doesn't work. It doesn't makes sense that any admins would remove evidence that levothyroxine is not the right treatment for everyone.

Your links have not been removed. Go to your profile, click 'view my public profile' which is a yellow button at the top right of the page and then click on the 'posts' button above the list of your recent activity. Here is a link to get you started. healthunlocked.com/user/phicks

You just need to click the 'posts' button and you will find them there. We have not removed your links and would never do so unless they violated the guidelines.

This article seems to me yet another excuse for doctors to treat thyroid patients badly!!! Yet another excuse for not diagnosing or treating. Besides "You will get heart attacks and Osteoporosis" they can now say "I am not going to give you medication because it causes cancer"!!!

Interesting, but very hard to draw any conclusions from for the reasons already mentioned.

More T4 than I can use makes me feel so bad that it's hard not to think that it can be good for anybody in that situation, but who knows what the causative factor behind the correlation the study picked up actually was...
