0.01 currently but endo said this was ok as Liothyronine lowers TSH.What is your TSH? Are you worried about it?

Lucky you! My private endo doesn't want me to have a TSH below 0.5 because he says this endangers atrial fibrillation. I can't find sensible information to back that up, only info that says low hormones can lead to it as well as high. And as I have had atrial fibrillation all the time for several years now I'm not happy to agree to that. It can't bring it on, it's already here! However he's written to my GP and said "never below 0.5"!! That's a battle I will probably have to face at some point. Not that I've ever had a TSH that low yet.

I do feel lucky that I have a supportive endo. It seems that they all have different ‘rule books’ so it isn’t a level playing field for those of us with thyroid conditions.

No, not me but my doc keeps on decreasing meds...

Undetectable

Ditto! Too low for zero… but the FT3 is spot on at the top of the range so there is no need for my pituitary gland to release TSH to tell my thyroid to make more.

0.11. Too low for my endo so now I am self supplementing as well as his prescription. I was in a stew about it but actually it’s way easier than stressing about what the doctors think. Wish I’d done it ages ago!

Hope that helps?

Me too...you have to do what makes you feel well....too many doctor's (even Endo's) do not seem to understand how Thyroid Disease 'works' unfortunately.

Suppressed. Even when I stopped taking NDT for a few weeks it stayed suppressed.

Sometimes there’s no getting it back into range (well, not without going through a period of being rather ill). I’ve read somewhere that it can take 6m to a year for the pituitary axis to fix itself when TSH has been suppressed for a while. Not something I particularly want to experience…

0.03 on 75mcg Levo and 12.5mcg T3.

What's your ft3 and ft3 and do you feel well?

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply tolisan1

TSH 0.03 (0.27 - 4.2)

Free T4 16.9 (12 - 22)

Free T3 6.47 (3.1 - 6.8)

do you feel well

No. With the above results I would say they were pretty good by my own standards but I would like to get my Free T4 a little bit higher and my Free T3 a little bit lower.

But I have several incurable health problems in addition to thyroid problems, so I don't expect to ever feel completely well. I'm also getting on a bit now which doesn't help.

Suppressed and depending on which lab does the test it's either <0.005 or <0.01 or <0.02

Hi Lisan1,

I have just received my latest test results back and have reached the heady heights of 0.02! Have been lower than that for over a couple of years. Interestingly, although my TSH is below range like this my other results are hardly optimal. On this occasion FT4 15.7 (12-22) and T3 3.8 (3.1-6.8). I do believe that if we reduced the dose to get the TSH into range the T4 and T3 would become borderline/below range.

For reference, I have the double DIO2 polymorphism meaning conversion of T4 to T3 is compromised.

My previous GP would only test/treat according to TSH. Yes, my TSH was 2.32 (0.3-5) but I felt like death ……..but then I would on 25mcg Levo🙉!

Hope this helps! Do get back to me if you have further questions.

Similar to me now TSH is 0.03 ft3 4.1 (3.6-.63) ft3 14 (12-22)My levels were good before doc started to decrease.

Does your endo have anything to say about the fact that your actual thyroid hormones (T4 /T3) are well in range? Are there any helpful academic articles/research papers about the fact that treating according to TSH alone is problematic? Check out the articles Diogenes shares on here. Also, I did experiment myself with reducing my dosage slightly to see if TSH would rise. 6 weeks later, follow up test, other results had dropped slightly TSH hadn’t budged. But then I think I noticed someone already posted to say it would take more than that to “re-set” TSH.

lisan1 in reply toMacG

They are low in range and I don't feel well so need an increase in meds but doc only look at TSH and therefore think I shall lower meds even more.

Depends on how much I'm on. From past results T4/T3 on natural desiccated- TSH 0.94 on 57/13.5 and TSH 0.05 on 76/18.

Suggest you concentrate on the active thyroid hormone T3 rather than the pituitary hormone TSH which responds to the serum level of thyroid hormone....it is far more relevant than TSH despite what is touted by medics who really do not understand how to join up the dots. In general terms people who take exogenous thyroid hormones should aim for a TSH of 1 or below. Basically it is how you feel that matters, and unless you have a known form of thyroid hormone resistance (RTH) then it is important to keep your FT3 within range.I am on high dose T3 only with RTH, my TSH is undetectable ....that's just how the body works.

Don't worry about low TSH if your frees stack up and you feel OK!

It's been 0.02 since I added liothyronine in September last year.

TSH 0.63(0.35-5.50) in range.

My TSH is nearly always within range 90% of the time.

I’m on liquid Levothyroxine plus Liothyronine T3.

My NHS Endo said he would stop prescribing liothyronine if I went out of range too low.

I feel better than I’ve felt in over a decade. I’m a poor converter of Levothyroxine and had a positive DIO2 gene test result. T3 medication has enabled me to live my life instead of struggling through on Levothyroxine alone. I’ve also lost over 4st in weight. I tell my partner that I’m getting younger every day as that’s how I genuinely feel now.

Sounds wonderful! What's your ft3 and ft4?

McPammy profile image
McPammy in reply tolisan1

My last T3 result was 4.8 (3.7-6.0) and my T4 result was 11.4 (7.86-14.41). I hadn’t taken any T3 prior for 16hrs and no Levothyroxine for 14hrs. I’ve had bloods done when I’ve recently taken Levothyroxine and T3 Liothyronine also and the results came back just within range so I know when it spikes after taking it doesn’t go over range.

How much levothyroxine and liothyronine are you taking if you don’t mind me asking?

McPammy profile image
McPammy in reply toTula2017

I take 75mcg Levothyroxine plus 5mcg T3 twice a day. If I’m doing regular exercise then I need to up my T3 and add a third 5mcg dose.

Mine is.01 and functional med doc is ok but PCP thinks it's bad. I am on 75 mcg T4 and 37.5 T3. FT3 is 3.4 (2.3-4.2). FT3 has been at this number for a very long time now. TSH has been around this number since being introduced to T3 in 2015.
