yeh they wouldn't leave it if they feared anything was dangerously wrong. have they not checked on you since the operation?

I had to wait 6 weeks to be told my dodgy nodule was a follicular adenoma (benign) I rang but they would not say until I went for post op checkup - never assume, please ring them to make sure. Jane :D

Do you mean your results were due back to the consultant yesterday? If that's correct then I'd give them a couple of days and then ring their secretary. Fingers crossed for you. x x

I called hospital as it had been six weeks and heard nothing . She said I was in luck they had just come back .

I said if all was good they could call me , my scar is pretty much good . I haven't had any follow up appointment or any thing

I don't really notice my scar any more, though do find myself running my finger along it when something is bothering me. :/ It's twenty years since I had my operation, but I only had the lump removed so had to have the rest eradicated with RAI. I've never had pain or weeping from the scar so you should be fine there. xx

as shellybelly says below - please chase up YOUR results, you should have a post-op assessment even if you feel ok - you need peace of mind! don't let them forget about you.

2 and a half years on I wear my scar with pride - proof of battle! (and an invitation to anyone to ask about Thyroid probs) BUT I am hypothyroid and need monitoring, you are entitled to know! J xx

Wound care

The wound should be kept dry for 48 hours and it can be left without a dressing. Some people like to wear a loose scarf to cover the wound. You will need to make an appointment with your GP practice nurse to have the suture under the skin removed on the third day after the operation. ( mine was 10 days) Please make this appointment before you come into hospital. The steristrips should stay on for one week. When completely healed the wound can be gently massaged a cream (e.g. Vitamin E cream) to soften the scarring. (Vaseline then Bio-oil for me)

Follow-up

We will give you an appointment to be seen in the Outpatient Department about 6 weeks after your operation. At this time the surgeon will discuss the results with you and any further treatment and follow-up you may need.

My results were back within 3 weeks, but due to an incompetent secretary there was a delay. Another 3 weeks before I got them. I got my results from my GP who looked up on I think they call the Sky system (Scotland). After a few phone calls from the GP surgery to the surgeons sec there was no joy. Then the hopeless secretary was MOVED to another job ( I hope to nothing important). Then the lovely new sec called me and I was up to see the surgeon the next day! In my experience chase up your results ASAP, hope all is well x
