What was it? The range is pants. Low folate can also cause enlarged red blood cells. Sorry to hear about the parathyroids, I don't know anything about it but saw some website links on the Thyroid UK main site:

Scroll down the page to Parathyroid. H x

what do you mean the range is pants ?

hampster means the range was set in 1952 taking really sick people into the sample so it threw the "average" to slant it towards sick..

For example ... the TSH range is no good at all... they used Thyroid PATIENTS in with the sample to look for an average so it's FAR too high.. a doctor will tell you that you're "fine" while you text your other half to pick you up because you can't walk to the bus stop..

The "ranges" all need revision as even the well people in 1953 or whatever were different to us now with much more time outdoors, a better diet with fewer additives and rubbish..

Exactly, what I meant was you can still be B12 deficient if your result falls in the normal range. Do you know what your number was?

so can you give me an idea to what the levels should really be or anyone does anyone know what are the correct levels

as its the same with ck test this is also way out

in reply tosuki65

It's not really that simple, in theory you can be deficient at any serum B12 level. But as a rough guide Sally Pacholok and Jeffery Stuart in the book "Could It Be B12?" advocate treating everyone with a serum B12 below 450 I think, because the consequences of missing someone who is deficient is far worse than the consequences of treating someone who isn't. If you know what your result is for B12 and folate just post them and other's will help interpret. I'm not sure what a ck test is?
