Hi! I'm wondering if anyone with hypothyroidism... - Thyroid UK
Hi! I'm wondering if anyone with hypothyroidism has trouble with water retention and has any good advice to alleviate bloating??
Bloating etc is a symptom of hypothyroidism, and it may be due to not being on enough thyroid gland medication.
This is a link to Thyroiduk.org and the last item is
self-explanatory.
This is another link and you will also find topics at the top of the page which may interest you.

If you can get a copy of your latest thyroid gland blood test results complete with the ranges and post another question people will comment. Some GP's keep us within the reference range which doesn't benefit many of us. We should aim for a TSH of 1 or below.
Hi Shaws none of your links are linked. They would have to be typed in again. New site I suppose.

Hi Joanna
Yes - sorry, the link problem is due to the site 'upgrade'. This is something HU are aware of and will be working on over the coming weeks.

You can always copy and paste links into your browser
There is a trick to posting links in posts at the moment. You have to put a space before and after the link. Hopefully this will be fixed soon because it is really annoying when you realise you've forgotten one of the spaces
Anyway, here is Shaws' link to make it easier. Hopefully it works!

Hiya.
The only thing that helped me was t3. I was on what looked like quite enough t4 (tsh well under 1, t3 and t4 near the top of the range, etc) but was terribly bloated (everywhere - face, belly, arms, legs, feet) for the first time in my life. T3 hasn't entirely restored my health unfortunately - I'm still symptomatic - but the swelling seems to have resolved by 90% anyway. I had a recent bout and wondered what it meant, but it has gone now so maybe was just a blip unrelated to thyroid.
thank you very much for your replies. here's me thinking that maybe getting some 'more' pills may do the job or maybe drinking alittle more water would work, especially with the warmer weather. swelling is mainly in my hands ands feet. As it happens I went for a blood test on Thursday and results will be back on Tuesday. I was only diagnosed 6 weeks ago so this will be my first reading since taking 50mg of levo daily. will be interesting to see if much changes as my diagnostic tsh was 23.6 and if the aim is to be below 2 or better 1. will post again with results.
P.S I managed ok to use link sent my CarolynB
I have swollen fingers, feet and ankles, pretty much permanently. Also, am still overweight.
I've been taking T3 for a year, currently around 100mcg. Very disappointed that it hasn't sorted out the swelling nor the massive weight gain.
Oh that is so disappointing. I'm disappointed that it hasn't sorted out my weight gain or exhaustion, but I'm still on a low dose and still have my fingers crossed for finding the right formula to feel better.
I'm assuming you've had no luck with t4. Have you tried ndt?
