Has anyone developed any other auto immune dise... - Thyroid UK
Has anyone developed any other auto immune diseases along with Hypothyroidism?
Yes four other ones, hard to say which came first.. but I think my hypothyroidism came along on the back of the others,, which is quite common. maryF
Thank you for answering my question I have P.A fibro osteroarthritis and food intolerances the fatigue is debilitating how do you cope?
Yes I have Psoriatic arthropathy, sjogrens, systemic lupus and hughes syndrome. I have a strategy for pacing myself as my children ill also. My nutrition for them and myself is carefully balanced - humour and fun is added also. I have found like many people that gluten free is better for autoimmune.. I have also checked that all vitamin balances in the body are ok, ie D, iron, b etc etc. It does not stop the awful fatigue but it does help. I have also just started on LDN. I also don't eat things like junk food or ready meals.. I make everything, and try and eat what is required rather than vitamins, ie I would eat a couple of brazil nuts a day, rather than take seleinum and the same with vitamin e.. use virgin olive oil on salads and eat avocadoes rather than dose with vitamin e for the skin. I also eat oily fish twice a week, and take a daily oil fish pill the days I don't have that. Sorry you are having a hard time - sympathies... really from one to another x M x
Yup, Reynaud's syndrome which came before the hypothyroidism. Also have very mild asthma and a drug allergy.
thanks for your kind reply I have late onset Asthma too I just did not want to list my medical issues as I feel embarrassed I may sound like an Hypochondriac.
I feel humbled when I realise I am luckier than a lot of other people.
Take care
Yes my mother had hypo ,lupus diabetes, and adrenal problems,x
Thank you for your reply
I was diagnosed with pernicious anaemia about 15 years before hypo. I also have had 3 bouts of alopecia areata. Hair is just coming through once again.
I am glad to hear your hair is coming back. Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.
yeh i have just developed raynauds in my feet and my hair is falling out fast now even though i have been hypo for 11 years. both my daghters and sister are hypo and one daughter has ceoliac and has weights issues one daughter has irritable bowel and my sister has digestion issues. we all take different amounts of thyroxine but we all suffer in tha smae way especially fatigue and anxiety attacks .
Thank you for your kind reply I can identify with your girls and know it must be a great worry for you to.
Yes you and I are rather common aren't we! M F x
We certainly are, I am taking Methotrexate for my Psioratic Arthritis.
The nausea is bad however I have nausea when my fibro is flaring.
I am in a wheel chair now awaiting double knee and hip replacement.
Its so good to know you are there even though I am sorry for your pain.
Keep in touch
I am so sorry you are so unwell, and my comment above was aimed at APsnotFab... who I know from elsewhere. PA is a vile and unremitting condition....let alone the itching which I get. You sound very very poorly, I have heard that that Methotrexate can can cause awful nausea. I hope you get better. I have gone down the LDN route, which is looking promising in the early stages. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing in the transition to wonder woman! Mary F x
i am better than some, I have seen young children with this condition Now that is so sad.. I am not sure they would have a wonder woman costume to fit my bottom and tummy. ha ha

Oh yes. I developed my other auto immune diseases well before the hypothyroidism was even caught or treated. I suffer from ulcerative proctitis and atopic eczema mainly on my hands.
thank you for taking the time to answer my question I can empathise with the itching
I used to feel like ripping my scalp off. I wish you well.

I would like to say a big thank to all of you who replied to my message. I only found the site yesterday and I already feel supported and have somewhere/one to turn to.

Thank you for your kind reply, I am very interested in your diagnosis of non celiac gluten intolerance. My doctor keep saying I have irritable bowel; I did however when I changed my diet it magically disappeared. Keep well.
I have had vitiligo for 20 years, was diagnosed with eczema about 13 years ago and my thyroid was 4.5 years ago. Although looking at my records I can see 15 years ago my TSH was 3.5 and can now recognise a lot of symptoms for my thyroid for years. I also have very mild hayfever and a wheat (not gluten) intolerance which is much improved since going on T3 and my eczema has gone as well.
Thank you for sharing. I had my thyroid diagnosed in my twenties and subsequent G.P's just write prescriptions with no other information, I asked one G.P for a referral to an Endo and was told they were managing my symptoms properly, Over the years I have sought information and changed my diet,
I am struggling with other auto immune and they mimic many thyroid symptoms.
Best Wishes
I have Antiphospholipid syndrome ( sticky blood )
