Hopefully the carb will sort you out soon, think it was probably two or three weeks until i noticed a difference but i was only on 20 mcg for the first three weeks then after the first blood test put nto 40mcg. Hyou got an appointment for an endo? It took from the end of Nvember to end if February until I actually got to meet mine then I started on levo along with the carb ( block and replace) I was told to take Vit C when I started taking carb so I have taken two slow release +zinc everyday. Just watch out for sore throats / temperatures etc at the start - read the instructions that come along with the carb.

Good luck,

Liz :-)

Thanks Liz no date yet for endo but GP spoke to him on phone while I was there said dose was high but had to go with specialist. Doctor didn't say much got more bloods tomorrow looking for Thyroid antibodies or something? Just can't believe how hot I am (and not in a good way either!) What is this T3 and 4 people keep talking about? I'll get some vit c tablets thanks

T4 is thyroxine - levothyroxine, not an expert at all but I think it should convert to T3 and think it doesn't always which must be why some people take it as well / instead. If you use the tags at the side here and look at questions from past posts you will be able to find ut a lot more, also about books that are worth reading.

Amazing that your doc spoke to your endo while you were there. I've got antibodies too, overactive with antibodies = Graves Disease. There are other things worth being tested for folates, feratin, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D. I'm working my way through the list.

Good idea to keep a note of your test results along with the lab ranges for your records, some people have difficulty getting them but my surgery just prints them off no charge and no bother for them

Yes I was hot too. Couldn't slope because of the pounding heart and night sweats, I used to wake up wet, plus I had the shakiest hands ever. Couldn't remember anything and felt upas if I was losing it. Incredibly intolerant too.

Pretty much back to normally nutty now but still needing a bit if tweaking I think.

You will get loads of help and advice on here, people really understand what it is like.

I also was diagnosed overactive thyroid back in April 2011. Saw a kind and understanding Endo who explained why I was dashing around like a madwoman in 5th gear mode all the time. I had the shaky hands and weight loss, brain fog, sleepless nights and anxiety state etc too. Prescribed 10mcg Carbimazole and warned about the sore throat symptoms but luckily that has never happened.

However, after 4 weeks I did suffer incredibly painful night cramps in my leg and thigh muscles and Endo said to reduce the tablet to 5mcg and I consider myself fortunate that I have tolerated this medication for the last 2 years without any further nasty side effects.

The Carbimazole was stopped April this year and i am in a "wait and see what happens" period with monthly bloods taken. RAI or Surgery has been suggested in the past but I have refused both as neither are what I want to consider, especially after reading many horror stories on this site.

I still feel weary and lack motivation, and have aches and pains, but given that I am 70 years old .I think in a positive way and have learned to listen to my body too We are retired and life can be slowed down now but I know that I would struggle to go to work or bring up a young family as many on this site do.

It is scarey and daunting being given the hyperthyroid label but I have found this site invaluable for information and support as I am sure you will too. Take care and Good Luck.

I've been on 20mg carbimazole for just over two weeks. Some good days and some bad. Sleeping is a bit hit and miss. Also on betablockers which has really helped with the shaking/tremors and also appetite. I can now eat when I'm hungry which is admittedly most of the day!

As someone else on here has said to me, don't expect too much of yourself or others. Roll with the punches and don't do what doesn't need to be done while waiting for things to start kicking in. Eat and sleep when you need to, if you can. x
