...do you have your blood results and their ranges ? Were you offered treatment ? I am guessing that as your results were within the ranges laid down - that it was you higher levels of anti-bodies that became the diagnosis of Hashimotos.

When I was diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2005 - all the TFT's were in range and I started on a small dose of 25mcg. of T4. I was told this was to support the thyroid. I live in Crete so things are different here - more flexible !

My conversion from T4 to T3 was NOT good and the FT3 level was always at the bottom of the range. I now take just T3 and feel better and stronger. Conversion problems can sometimes be a problem for Hashimotos people.

Hashimotos is an Auto-immune disorder - so check out your digestion - and try to improve your diet to the best it can be. Lots of information on this forum. Take a look at the tags on the right of this page and read and read.

Please post your results and ranges and someone will advise you. You need to look at your B12 levels along with Iron Ferritin Folic Acid and VITD. All are normally low in Hashi's people....and the results need to be at the top of the ranges.

It's a long journey - but one worth travelling. There's just lots to learn - and being on this forum is such a good start....

Wishing you well.........

...of course without ranges it is difficult to make a judgement.....but your FT4 seems low by any range. Being told that your results are 'normal ' is a bit wide of the mark in my non-medical opinion. 50 mcg is quite a low dose. So have you been told when to have another blood test - usually six weeks after diagnosis - after which it may be prudent to increase your dose until symptoms have been relieved.

Next time ask for all the things mentioned above and also for a FT3 test....

I don't want to unduly alarm you - but there is no instant get well with Hashimoto's. It's a life-long condition and it will take time to begin to feel better. There is a process whereby your dose of levothyroxine is increased in stages with regular blood tests to monitor your levels. Sometimes after an increase you stat to feel well, only to come down again after a while - and you can go through this several times before you get onto the optimum dose for you. I don't fully understand your situation, but for the moment it might be wise to continue with your GP, have your next blood test, post your results here and see how things go before seeking private treatment.

I completely understand that I will not feel better instantly however I have been going to the docs about my symptoms for 6 years - the doc is reluctant to increase my thyroxine as he considers my blood ranges to be normal so as far as doc is concerned I am better

How long have you been taking levo? And does you GP understand that once you are taking it that he should aim for your TSH to run at the bottom of the range? I seem to be at my best when mine is between 0.8 and 1.0. And if you are still feeling rubbish has he tested the other things - vitamin D, B12 etc.?

Hiya,

feeling very similar!! I started on levo over 3 years ago, was told I was Hypo. Then in March this year, going privately and having anti body test, TPO was 500> found out I had hashimoto's. Have been feeling really unwell too since then and have had several tests done. Today they have tested for Celiac Disease, tomorrow I'm having a Gastroscopy and at the end of the month I'm having my first ultrasound of my thyroid. My voice is getting increasingly deeper, I'm gulping rather than swallowing normally, neck is tender and have a bad headache at the back of my head.

My advice would probably be if your not well, keep going back to your GP. I tend to write everything down, questions I want to ask, and if need be, suggest the next step.

Hope you get some help soon x

I have an appointment on Monday - I had some biopsy done on my neck as my goitre has numerous nodules which have been increasing in size. I also experience the bad headache at back of my head daily but was told this was down to my tacyicardiac i also gulp as ferl it hatd to seallow. My weight gain is another factor that us increasing even when eating very little. I feel this condition is very unsupported by doc who don't listen to how u r feeling as long as u fit into the ranges they don't care...

Hope ur tests go well xx thank u for ur reply xx
