Hi there,
I'm sure you are all familiar with my story, as it appears to be so common - so will be as brief as possible.
Have had symptoms for underactive thyroid for twenty odd years now and have been past from pillar to post. Have had no help whatsoever from my GPs and have given up on them.
After all these years I finally started to try and take more control of my illness by doing lots of research and have just had my Thyroid Plus results back from Genova Diagnostics.
They have come back as 'lower than optimal Thyroxine T4 level.' coming in at 65.8 (58 - 154), Free Thyroxine at 11.6(10-22) and FT4:FT3 ratio 2.5.(2.0-4.5)
These results were after taking Thyro complex prescribed by my naturopath, so without them, could possibly have been under.
I now need to find a doctor who will take me seriously and be sympathetic as I am running out of steam over this very long and arduous journey. I have been diagnosed with ME but have a strong feeling th thyroid is the cause for most of my symptoms. Am feeling very lonely, desperate and exhausted 'banging my head against a brick wall' on this 'journey' trying to find the right person to take these results to. Am new to this site and not sure if we should mention names or books, but I have read a well known book on the thyroid and wondered if I should see the author himself, who I believe is practising in Surrey somewhere, or find a doctor who can prescribe medication. Have also heard about armour thyroid.
As you can see, I am completely clueless, and feel so lost, running round like a headless chicken over the whole thing. I would be so grateful if anyone out there could give me some sound advice as to what to do next. I think I need something drastic as this has gone on for so long, and my energy levels are so low these days. Please help! Thank you.
