Recent test results:
TSH 0.93 (0.30-4.20)
Free T4 20.9 (12.00-22.00)
Free T3 3.7 (3.10-6.80)
Can anyone tell me what the optimal T3 result is?
Thanks

Katy23013, your T3 is low. It should preferably in the upper part of the range, to be honest it looks as if you are producing T4 but not converting it to T3.
This could be connected with deficiencies of some vitamins, There is a page on the main website about the role of vitamins here:
thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...
It could be worth your while to look at this and have the doctor test the most important ones - B12, C, D, plus ferritin. Lower than optimal levels of any of these can prevent your body from converting the inactive storage hormone T4 to the active form, T3. You could find that by correcting any deficiencies, your thyroid function would improve and you might not need to have any synthetic thyroxine at all.
If this is not the case, then you might find that some doctors or endocrinologists would agree to prescribe T3 since that is what seems to be the problem.
I am not medically qualified, like most of the folks on this site, but we base our advice on accumulated understanding and shared knowledge. That is why I directed you to the main website where the information is based on scientific evidence.
I hope this helps you

Thanks Marie. I am very low in D3, B12 and iron which had me thinking I might have difficulty with absorbing the meds and other minerals and vitamins. My GP said my results were normal. I'm seeing an Endo privately next week so hopefully he will be able to get to the bottom of things.

Looks like your T4 is not being effective. Is there a chance you could get T3 or at least a natural hormone with T3 in it. Tell your doctor that your low T3 is a concern especially when your T4 is THAT high when they should both be fairly high in the ranges. I hope he knows about conversion!
Hi Heloise
Thank you for the links they make interesting reading. My GP does not think my T3 is low as it's "in range", he also thinks I should be on statins, seeing a psychiatrist and should be "taking in the air on a long walk". I'm seeing an Endo privately next week so fingers crossed someone will actually start treating my symptoms and not my test results.
Katy, it's so very bizarre how the NHS treats this condition and making it several different diseases. I hope you can ignore all that. They are not considering that what is normal for one person can be totally wrong for another and those ranges are too variable and wide. Dr. Rind's matrix if accurately analyzed (hard to do) shows the sensitive relationship between your T3 and T4. They have to work "perfectly" for each individual and that's where the problem in getting the customized doses of each is essential to feeling good.
I hope you are checking out the side nutrients like B12, iron and folate, and especially vitamin d. In fact, I'd advise you to assume you are low in B12 and vitamin d3 and go ahead and purchase on your own as it would be no worry even if you overdose somewhat. .
Hi. Yes I am low on many other vitamins inc B12, D3 etc. I do wonder whether I am ingesting any of the masses of vits and minerals I chomp through every day. It's nice to have people on here that understand at least.
