Can anyone recommend a pick-me-up to lift mood? Graves sufferer.

Hi everyone

Wonder if any of you can recommend something to lift mood, I've been feeling very flat and demotivated for a few weeks. I'm tweaking my Levothyroxine and increasing it slightly as my last FT4 was mid-range and I'm happiest at the higher end of the scale.

Just looking for some tips and suggestions please as I'm a bit miserable to be around

Many thanks everyone :-)

Speaking from personal experience, if the low, flat mood is due to insufficient thyroid hormone (which it undoubtedly was for me), then only bringing thyroid hormone levels up to where they need to be will work. Nothing else did it for me. Some people find that regardless of how much they take, levothyroxine alone doesn't quite fit the bill and need to add in some T3 to lift the mood back up. Vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels need to be appropriate too, but increasing those levels only works for me in conjunction with getting thyroid hormone sorted.

Hi thanks for that

You know in the nine years since I've been diagnosed, I've had my T3 tested twice and nobody has ever mentioned supplementing it.

I'll have to get these levels checked and see whether I need some. I'll also take your advice re the Vitamin D and B12.

Many thanks :-)

I can speak from recent experience. My Vit D , iron and Vit B 12 were all very low but not low enough to receive help from the NHS.

I had a 25 mg increase in thyroxine, taking Vit B12, Vit D and folic acid and so far I am slowly feeling a difference even after 2 weeks.

I would also say ask your GP for blood tests

The only thing that picked me up was sun. Try and get yourself to a beach, doesn't have to be far away, but change of scenery and some sunshine does a lot for graves disease. Hardest part is actually going. Good luck x

I find I need to take a good liquid vitamin and mineral supplement. There are more choices from US, but in the UK there is one by Neways called 'Maximol Classic'.
