Epilim (sodium valproate) - wrecks havoc with thyroid?

Hi.

I've been taking both Epilim (sodium valproate) and Tegretol (carbamazepine) for about 20+ years. I read a medical paper sometime ago that mentioned Epilim can disrupt the thyroid functions. I can't find the paper as I'd like to investigate this further, but I'll post it here if I track it down!

Was wondering if anybody here either has experienced this, or knows somebody whose thyroid has been affected by this drug?

Thanks Jane! If anyone's interested, there's also been a recent trial where both drugs mentioned were suspected of altering the thyroid: medscape.com/viewarticle/72...
