I had my root canal work done yesterday with no side effects: I went armed with advice from this site and asked to have adrenaline free anaesthetic unlike my pre treatment 3 weeks ago. The dental nurse was really helpful and kept the dentist on board with her result : no side effects and offending tooth repaired.

Many Thanks to those who replied to my question a few weeks ago. Citanest Plain is the option to ask for. I also took the precaution of taking extra Nutri Adrenal an hour before the appointment.

He also assured me his practice does not use sulphonamides - (some do and I am very allergic to them).

I calmly went through my 9 x table very slowly up to 1,548 ish( mental fog in the way) - the dentist kept me informed of each stage of the process and interrupted my calculations to ask me to hold the xray machine to check how far he had drilled - made me lose count huh -ha ha -

Usually I do imaginary walks or hum fiddle tunes but the 9 x table seemed more consuming - don't tell me what that means !

Might be helpful. It seems the adrenaline is usually added to reduce risk of bleeding but for me that gave side effects for 2 days. It seems some people can have them for even longer - see the link

That is interesting as last time I had an injection I turned white and started shaking when I was paying the bill. The dentist was very concerned and we had to call hubby to come and fetch me as could not drive.

Sounds very similar to my experience about 3weeks ago when given a local by my now retired dentist. The following day I had some more weird symptoms .I went back to tell him and to post pone the next appt . The nurse of another dentist was at the desk and said she recognised this as reaction to the adrenaline in the anaesthetic the dentist seemed unaware .

Result saw the nurse and her dentist this week had adrenaline free anaesthetic and felt fine. Do have tooth ache in another tooth though :-[ eeek x

Hello there. Can you explain what the contradiction is between adrenaline and hypothyroidism? I only ask because I am thyroid free and take levo and was reasonably happy ticking along until I had a tooth removed 3 weeks ago - with lots of some sort of anaesthetic and since then I my general well-being has transformed from 'ok' to 'very strange'; foggy, sleeplessness, no energy, rashes, eye problems etc. Could this be connected with the dentistry? Hi Louisa am not sure re link except hypo can be associated with adrenal probs I think exaggerated for me as I had kidney removed a number of years ago .I take .adrenal supplements daily on Dr P'a advice. Other posts on this site seem to say dental work can be a real pain for thyroid patients - take care X

Hi Louisa - very interesting as I have found that doing multiplication tables lowers my blood pressure, found this quite by accident when in hospital, so I will try it at the dentist next week, but did read somewhere that too many dental X-rays can cause thyroid problems. So I will ask about this next week too. take care from Salty x

Have spoken to pharmacist who advises a bracelet or similar should be worn if there are probs with Adrenaline as commonly given in Road Accidents to reduce bleeding and to help the heart. Says amounts given in the dentist are so small so if you react to them then you are even more likely to react to a higher dose. Advised me to see GP and alert them too.
