My pharmacist has spoken directly to Mercury Pharma and they told him it is at least 2 months to sort it out. He has sourced me a few boxes which will be here next week (bless him) but that clearly will be be sufficient if there is a 2 month plus issue. Perhaps they are hoping we will all curl up in a ball and keel over and save them the bother. ;-p
T3 again: My pharmacist has spoken directly to... - Thyroid UK
T3 again
One of the drugs I have to take ceased to be manufactured in the Uk due to a fire. It went on for 2 years. I really do understand the panic all T3 users must be in.
My pharmacist did get some from the US, so they can source in other countries.
Good Luck,

My pharmacist didn't even know what T3 was! I am sure it will all get sorted out once the reality hits those that need to know, be it import from elsewhere, but it is really shocking that it could even get to this state in the first place.
Over reliance on one company is not a good move, as I know only too well!
There are so many shortages of drugs in common use, as I wrote in a previous post some of our drugs are sold off abroad to make huge profits.
I wonder what is really causing the shortage of T3. I cannot believe your pharmacist didn't know what it was!!
My GP is now on the case. He says they pay a huge amount for the pharmacists to source the prescriptions so cannot understand how the situation has been left to develop as such. He says he has quite a few people on T3 so will see what he can do. I said the only thing I would be willing to try would be NDT but would really prefer not to since I am well on T3. We shall see.
After reading all these messages, I too am on T3 but had to get it from a recommended supplier by Dr P. Im a bit scared that will run out too so ordering some straight away just incase they run out too.
I think your gp is telling you porkies they do not pay huge amounts to pharmacies to source medication. A pharmasist cannot just buy drugs from abroad. The wholesalers source the supplies and this can be from abroad if necessary. The only money a pharmacy gets is a small dispensing fee. A pharmacy has a legal duty to try everything reasonably practacable to fill your prescription but they cannot import drugs
It is more likely that I got the wrong end of the stick with the GP. He is a decent fella and I respect him a lot. It may be that he said he pays huge sums for the medication but used different words. Either way he said it was down to the pharmacy to source the medication but he was going to see what he could do as it was an unacceptable situation.
I went to my local Boots with the printout of the message put up by nobodysdriving thyroiduk.healthunlocked.co... and to be fair to them in a small town like Welshpool got me a month's supply of 10mcg T3 capsules (I'm on 10mcg x3 daily) from somewhere, although they did say they were as hard to get hold of as hen's teeth. The good news is that they CAN and will get hold of them, so there is hope...
