What a difference a year makes - going up Pen Y Fan this weekend...!

This time last year I was really struggling, and exactly a year ago this weekend I was supposed to be away for the weekend with friends climbing Snowdon, but I felt too ill and had to cancel :( This was my blog at the time:

thyroiduk.healthunlocked.co...

Well happily a year on, I am going away this weekend and will be climbing Pen Y Fan with the same friends who I let down last year :) ;)

I am really looking forward to it, although I'm definitely not feeling fit enough - I haven't done any training at all :(. My friends have decided on a difficult 12 mile route which I think encompasses 4 different peaks (hopefully on a ridge) !! :D I have invested in a pair of waterproof trousers (think I may need them unfortunately), and we will be staying for 2 nights in a youth hostel - something I haven't done for about 30 years - hope things have changed a bit since then... :D

Still can't believe how much better I am feeling :) I am currently on 2.75 grains of Armuor, this time last year I couldn't handle 1.5 and had to go back down to 1.25.

Thank you everyone for the help and support that have got me to where I am now. I suspect I will need a further small increase in a few weeks time - maybe I will finally make it to the magic 3 grains mentioned in the STTM book :D xxxx

Wow Clarebear - have a fantastic time. Hope you don't need to use the waterproof trousers too often and I'll cross my fingers your four peaks are on a ridge but I bet fit or not you'll have a great time and you will come back energised - maybe not on Sunday night but you will once you have recovered :-)

Thank you Liz :) Fingers crossed for the waterproof trousers staying in my backpack :D xx

Have a great time Clare. We did a similar thing many years ago with the kids and stayed in a YH somewhere in the Brecon Beacons for 2 nights, then pitched a tent for 2 nights. The second night when we got back from our walk the tent was floating! That is the only time we've ever had to abandon a camping trip. We adjourned to McDonalds, then came home. That was in August though so you'll probably have much better luck in April! ENJOY! Jane x

Thanks :) Oh no bad luck with the tent! We spent a week in a tent by lake Garda in Italy a few years ago in August and our tent was flooded by heavy rain too - I didn't expect that in the summer in Italy :( Hoping you don't still have to do all of the cleaning at the hostel?! :D xxxx

I did PenY Fan last Dec and it was very windy. I would get those waterproofs [lined?] on early- it's always too late when under way -esp with boots on :)

Well we did it :) Just got back home and completely knackered :D We did the 4 peaks - Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Crybin and Fan y Big :) Have done another shorter walk today which went behind a waterfall - fell asleep in the car coming home, but had NO thyroid symptoms all weekend - looks like the new dose of 2.75grains is right for now :) Am off to run a lovely deep bath now ;) :) xxx
