I've never had a problem with IBS before, never even thought I had it. But I had a significant amount of caffeine on a night out, a lot of red bull, and ever since that point I am getting severe pain in my stomach before I go to the bathroom. A week later and it's still happening. Can this cause IBS?

Caffeine cause IBS?
I've been experiencing symptoms of IBS for nearly two years. I was always a big coffee drinker and mixed my alcohol (vodka) with lemonade or diet Coke. Fizzy drinks and caffeine are well-known to make the symptoms of IBS worse. Last summer I decided to eliminate caffeine and fizzy drinks from my diet and replaced them with plenty of water and peppermint tea. I noticed a massive difference and the peppermint tea also seems to help ease the pains in my tummy. It definitely took some time to get used to the peppermint tea and I wouldn't recommend eliminating the caffeine overnight as I suffered awful headaches almost all the time for about 2-4 weeks. Its worth giving it a go though! Also try peppermint capsules/pure peppermint sweets. Hope this helps!x
To my experience.. YES. To much of caffeine, like shot expresso, strong coffee.. surely makes my IBS bad. Avoid it.
As diamond said above, fizzy drinks coke/pepsi are surely making it worse.
Try juice always. Its always good. Even in pub, try to stay with Juice, instead of alcohol.. and you will feel better !!
Yes to all above!
It is my experience that couple of strong coffee triggers the IBS very badly and makes it very uncomfortable, until it is all expelled from the system, attempt to introduce probiotic culture on a continuous basis, has some positive effect, however excess alcohol, spicy food, stress and tension directly affects the IBS and push to use medication to get life going forward. Carelessness in this regard would lead to chronic situation. Managing colon health is a task with pre and probiotic support and watch what goes in without suffering from after effects.
