Hi. You ask the question “why have I still got diverticular disease/IBS” it is my understanding that once you have diverticulosis you will always have it I’m afraid. It’s just a question of trying not to let it go to diverticulitis, which is when it becomes inflamed or infected.
It is a very common complaint over a certain age. I was diagnosed with a severe form of it following a colonoscopy. I suffer on a daily basis with discomfort & various changes in bowel habits. Good to hear there was nothing more sinister picked up. Obviously speak to your GP if you want more clarity.
I just want to thank you for your reply very promptly even though it wasn't the answer I wanted but has put my mind at ease a tiny bit and will try my GP again one day this week if I can get through the automated phone service ETC and I wish you well with your problems as it is not very nice at all
I am on Alflorex capsules have been taking them for 2 months and they have made such a difference, tried all the other remedies Buscopan,Colofac Alverine none worked .They are expensive but i was willing to try anything.
from what I understand, a ‘normal’ colonoscopy report just means that nothing sinister or requiring intervention eg cancer, crohns or ulcerative colitis was found - as the previous replier said diverticular disease is very common in the over 40 age group and isn’t ‘curable’ as such. Treatment is based on controlling symptoms. IBS is a functional disease that whilst horrible (I have both so know what it’s like) doesn’t develop into anything life threatening. Hopefully your doctor will be able to help with both these conditions. I’m pleased to hear that the colonoscopy has ruled out anything more ‘serious’ giving you a ‘normal’ result.
Least all was 'normal' that's good. It generally means nothing sinister found.
I have lived with divertular for over 15 years diagnosed late 30s which they said was unusual but given I had cryptosporidian a few years before it was associated to that !!
Just try to eat what agrees with you, no two people are the same. Learn to identify your upset markers and then do low fibre / white foods only.
I have had 2 colonoscopy and each time have come away with a printout of their 'findings' the 2nd had less... how that can be when there was 12 years apart baffled me. I take each weeks as it comes. I take pro and pre biotics which help a lot
Peppermint tea is a daily drink too
Good luck. Loads of advise on here but you know your body and symptoms best xx
