Probiotics
I take Psyllium Husk Fibre from Nu U as a prebiotic (2 capsules) and Bio Cultures Complex from Pure Health as a probiotic (1 capsule) every morning and they help me. You can buy them both on Amazon. Don't think there's any magic pill but I have less severe flares and fewer of them since taking them.
Iāve been using Epetome for 6 weeks and itās made a huge difference to my groin pain. Epetome uses a dual encapsulation process that ensures delivery past the stomach. Itās not cheap but the results are the best Iāve ever experienced after suffering for years.

I also take butyrate which has been shown to reduce diverticulosis. I use the microencapsulated version for delivery to my lower bowel. Itās a bit smelly to eat but ok with a little yogurt.
Hi I have tried several probiotics in the past, giving each plenty time to make a difference and after nearly 4 weeks on Alflorex have found them very helpful in reducing visceral pain, without upsetting my bowels. I still feel I am settling in on them and will continue. I did like Symprove, and was on that for about a year, but decided to give Alflorex another try and realised when I stopped Symprove it was making little difference! I know there are a lot on the market, but Alflorex I believe has been developed specifically to target ibs, I hope this is helpful š
Hi,
Itās a minefield isnāt it! What Iāve learned about diverticular is that itās a constantly changing thing- all I can give is my experience.
Probiotics helped-until they didnāt. Bulking agents helped-until they didnāt. I tried the low FODMAP diet; foods in the red zone I was fine with, foods in the green zone upset me! After 4 years of trying many different things Iām at a stage where for me less is best- normal diet, low fibre and loperamide daily to slow my guts down.
Again this only my experience and everyone is different. What I have learned from my own research and the experience of others on this forum is that IBS is a term used by health professionals as an umbrella term for anything wrong with our digestive system. Our bodies are a truly spectacular piece of natural engineering and so complex itās almost impossible to know everything about it. I think the most important fact Iāve learned is the gut and the brain are directly linked- if my guts are unhappy then all of me suffers. Thereās no such thing as a one solution for all, each of us have our own, itās the finding it thatās tricky š
Alflorex probiotic has been a game changer for my IBS and it has been scientifically studied for it.
Natures Aid Bio360 Pro-30 max has helped me a lot. I chose that one after reading an article on recommended good bacteria strains for IBS and it has all of those mentioned. Not massively expensive either. (I don't have diverticular so I don't know if it'll help with that).
I use probio7, they're in a purple box and they're sold in Holland and Barrett and Boots. They're Ā£17.99 for 30 but Holland and Barrett often have offers on. I've been using them a few years now and they definitely help because a couple of times I've got complacent and stopped taking them then boom, stomach issues again. I can't be without them now.
Hi, I find the probiotics from Holland and Barrett help me, I use 20 billion live friendly bacteria with acidophilus. Cost around Ā£20 for 60 but generally on bogof or something. Have been able to return to eat some bread etc!x
