..I haven't had many problems with Ibs for the last couple of years, but after a change to random bowel movements I went to my GP. She ran loads of tests.. Blood tests for Liver /kidney function, Pancreatic /Ovarian cancer. Blood counts.Stool tests.. Three different ones (basic and more sensitive for blood)....IBD etc and everything came back negative...A few days ago, randomly I had stomach pain, lower abdomen and relentless..Its been there 24/7 ever since...Its driving me mad.. It gets worse after I eat, but doesn't subside after a bowel movement..Tried Buscopan/Merbeverine/Peppermint before and nothing makes any difference.. Saw GP yesterday She said def Ibs and prescribed low dose Citalopram, but after reading, not sure if I can take these with Low dose Pregablin I'm taking for back pain... Surviving on Codeine as am unable to function /sleep in this much pain..Anyone else been thru this type of Ibs?
Thankyou. Debbiejayn.

I've had this for 3 years, exactly the same as your symptoms. I've had every test in the book. CT virtual colonoscopy, stanfard colonoscopy, proctogram, sigmoidoscopy, manometry, blood tests, xrays etc. They found severe diverticular disease, rectocele, narrowing of sigmoid, still waiting for results of sigmoidoscopy and manometry from last month. After all these tests, still no treatment has been offered.I,m in constant pain 24/7, cant sleep, and no apinkillers help.
Hi...I'm sorry you're suffering too...I have a rectocele too, whether that's anything to do with it I don't know...I had a Colonoscopy about 10yrs ago, which was completely fine.Due to all blood tests and fact I'm not losing weight ,I think its probably oversensitive gut.
Feels like my bowel muscles always active, and never calm down..What I want to know is how to calm everything down..?.. I can't concentrate or think straight ,..Codeine means I can just about function...Christmas is going to be difficult...Let's hope we find an answer soon..Thankyou ,and hope you're better soon. D.
Thankyou. Christmas is going to be very hard for me too, I suppose we'll just have to struggle through it. It could be the codeine causing the pain? Have the best Christmad you can x
Have you been tested for small intestinal bacteria overgrowth or Candida? Check those out. A low fodmap diet does wonders to decipher what's messing up digestion. And heal it.
Alforex probiotic has helped me greatly with IBS pain and it has been scientifically studied for IBS. You could also try the Nerva gut directed hypnotherapy app.
I know edwangy and I'm sorry to hear that. It does help a lot of people so worth a try in the first instance like being your own human experiment since experimenting is all we have at this point of time unfortunately. There may be some other aspect of IBS going on for you.
Hi the best pain relief I had was low dose imipramine, but could not tolerate due to its constipating side effects though it could be helpful for others. There are some digestive bitters like artichoke leaf that are soothing, chamomile, peppermint and ginger can be very powerful. If you can tolerate codeine, imipramine may be good for you, it certainly worked for the short time I had it. Best wishes 🤞
It could be fibroids. Estrogen levels can stimulate them. They are not uncommon, but unfortunately there is not much you can do except hug a hot water bottle and take painkillers for the cramp, and drink green tea and take vitamin D to help shrink them. Do make sure your vitamin B12 levels are good too, because that helps everything.
pain was always my worse symptom. It would last for months at a time, and had gone in for years. My turning point was being prescribed a low dose of amitriptyline. I was skeptical but it has really helped, I still have the odd flare up but my pain symptoms are so much better.
Is it Diverticulitis? Constant pain 24/7 when the Diverticular pouches are inflamed/ infected.
Also I do believe Rectoceles cause pain too. The lady GP I saw recently was the first one to ever say it. Apparently the Rectocele pulls on nerves in the Pelvic floor causing pain .
Can’t understand why they are trying you on Citalopram which is an SSRI? Think you are right to think that is not really appropriate for the pain you are experiencing .
I too have very similar symptoms. Also a large rectocele. Ws advised by a private gynaecologist to have a ring pessary fitted. Took 26 phone calls to sort on NhS - it was in for 6 hrs then I sneezed and it fell out!
Still trying to organise another fitting. Have seen a pelvic physio- who is fab, but I’m still in pain the majority of time.
I’m getting frightened to eat for fear of pain& nausea. I take nightly laxatives and have to use suppositories and douche frequently- otherwise nothing happens!
I need to sort this as it’s ruing my life.
The final option is a colostomy. All caused by over use of opioids for severe back pain… it’s all very difficult. Sorry I can’t offer anything better.
