I take this every day - as dulcoease capsules, I do believe they help to soften - also eat porridge, prunes , obvious fibre rich foods - like yourself frequent visitor with impactions, doing better now - gave up on fybrogel and all that - finding half a cube of fruits and fibre ( ortis) is faring me rather well - it’s a horrible way to be x

I have tried everything and demanded Linacoltide which has worked for me. Not a BM every day but ever other day which was my normal pre IBS. Downside only a gastroenterologist can prescribe this med.

I have IBS-c And slow gut transit. Fybogel, laxido etc all make me worse, however docusate helps with no issues for me (4 tablets a day). I can't tolerate linaclotide either. I would say give docusate a go and give yourself chance to get used to it then you can vary the dose to suit you. If that fails see a consultant as they are the only ones that can prescribe Prucalopride. Good luck.

Dear Poppyseed8,

I understand completely how awful constipation can be. I have several other conditions as well. Coeliac and adhesions from previous pelvic surgeries. My night pain is the worst. I usually have to take laxido 2 sachets at night. Fybogel was no help at all. Drinking large amounts of water suggest 2 litres but I know this is a lot but you can drink herbal teas etc. I add elderflower cordial to water sometimes

It is a case of trial and error. Hang on in there. Don't give up with your GP.

Distraction and physio help too.

Best of all trash TV for winter evenings

Warmest regards,

Dolly

One thing about Fybogel ive noticed is you need to drink lots of water before taking it. I take Fybogel once a day every evening after 6pm, by which time I've drank about 3-4 pints of water. I'm finding my symptoms to be far less a problem when I do this. I also take Apple Cider vinegar gummies, 2 per day and since taking these my symptoms have improved not massively but considerably compared to before I took them. Good luck hope you manage to sort it out.

Magnesia..magnesium.. As ive said in many posts, magnesium is a crucial element . Coincidence that something with magnesium works for your bowel movements..worth flipping the script ..

I suggest magnesium, stress is burning it up, and then more lost in the stools.

I don't know about the hip pain but I saw a dietician who has specialities working with IBS sufferers and she changed a few things in my diet and included 2 x Fybogel daily. Most changes involved upping fibre intake.... more fruit, veg, drinking more water... It had a positive effect and greatly improved my symptoms
