Morning all, I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the following, for the last few weeks my BP has been up and down pounding heart etc , I've been keeping a record of it for my gp, and have noticed that when I'm unable to "go" it's higher as soon as I've been things settle down again, and I feel much better in myself too ,so I wondered if anybody had noticed this too , either way I would be interested to hear your thoughts thanks in advance x

It could be some stimulus of the vagus nerve?
You could be right , I have seen the nurse today for a BP check , and explained my thoughts , regarding this but she didn't seem to think it would be that, but hopefully I can get to the bottom (no pun intended ) when I speak to a Dr, thanks for you reply x
Morning all, I thought I would give you all an update , I couldn't get an appointment with a gp , but got a telephone consultation , and it was explain to me that my fainting is a consequence of the vagas nerve, as a few of you suggested being activated (sounds like a time bomb), and it lowers bp and bingo , was told to drink loads , and try not to worr9y , that was it , unless I get chest pain , beginning to think the better drs are on here , thanks again
It could be that you get anxious about not going to the loo, then your heart rate goes up and so does your BP. I've been that way for years. If you can't go, try not to panic, try to relax, that way nature is more than likely to take it's course rather than if you are tensed and anxious.
Thank you you might be right , I did see the nurse yesterday for bp check , it was up again ,it's been like this for about 3 weeks or more , hopefully it will get sorted soon , as it makes me feel really rough at times ,thanks for your reply .
This happened a lot to a friend of mine. It does sound like the vagus nerve is being irritated. If the Nurse said it's not that, what did she suggest? Because it's not normal and people are quick to blame anxiety, which, bin my opinion is dangerous unless you've had your heart checked. So push for this to be seen to properly if you can.
"If the Nurse said it's not that, what did she suggest? " It's the what did she suggest part that really got to me.
--Call for a Dr. appointment and they say we can have one a month and a half later, but give no further advice. I have to ask what are other options.
--Get the results from a colonoscopy and then from stool sample and they say nothing has shown up. Again, I ask about options.
--I have gone so far as to refuse having my husband see a Gastroenterologist who refused to have an office consultation before a colonoscopy despite my repeatedly pointing out that my husband has diabetes and chronic kidney disease and has been having explosive diarrhea. Then, when the office finally called for his medical info, on the morning of the scheduled procedure, they say he can't get it done in their offices, but has to go to the hospital. The good thing that came out of this is the gastro who could not have cared less was not on call and we had the most experienced dr. in the practice.
--Finally, after all results were in dr. #1 had no suggestions. When I said that I had no confidence in him and wanted another opinion, dr. # 2 got back in the picture.
I fear for all of us who need medical advice, and do not get it!
Dear me! That is appalling! I know this sounds awful, but have you got a few quid to spend to have tummy checked out privately? From my own ridiculous experience about 12 years ago, I was passed around because I was having an extra beat in heart after eating. Went on until I digested food. But they insisted on viewing the heart as separate from stomach. I see loads of people complaining of similar things. I just had to sort it out myself. Went on for 2 years. But quite honestly it's terrifying to think that noone is bothering. Go to an outpatient A&Ewith the racing heart. They will soon look at it.
Mine was up but I get very nervous. My GP has prescribed Propanolol. I am 67.
Thanks to all who have replied , the nurse didn't suggest anything tbh ,but she did say Dr gonna ring me later today regarding readings I gave yesterday , I'm already taking 3 types of bp pills and it is very scary when it gos really high ,so fingers crossed they can sort me out soon ,it's a horrible feeling
If you are in pain your blood pressure will rise. It will fluctuate all the time depending what you are doing or even thinking. That's why a doctor will take the best of three. The more you worry about it the higher it will be. I know cos I was the same and didn't believe it at first.
I once (about 4-5 years ago) got a vagal spasm when I went to do an unusual-time #2 which was at 9pm. I never go at that time, so I think some anxiety in me was scared about "what's up??" It turned out to be a completely normal OK bm. But I remember my heart started racing and flipping, and I felt like I was fading out. Quite scary. Thought I might be dying! I was so determined not to die on the loo, and get cleaned up first and pull my pants up etc that I forced myself out of it.
I came straight downstairs and had a quick shot of brandy. Immediately I began to feel better, and within 10 minutes was walking half a mile to feed the neighbour's cat!
I think the vagal spasm only lasted about 10-15 minutes and after it I felt shaken up slightly but the worst had gone.
But if you get really worrying heart symptoms that continue or recurrence of faintness, etc, that's different. I would say get to any urgent care hospital nearby or at least phone 111
